Kaijune Mudfish!
By Josh Sunga
I was reminded earlier here that Kaijune has begun. It'll be a good practice for me to push shapes and just have fun doing crazy monsters :) I hope some of you join as well!
Also please feel free to critique me even if I'm a critiquer! I am along for the ride for improving.
And even if you don't have an "art critique," feel free to share your thoughts about where you think an idea can go. A lot of what concept design is are the ideas and stories behind our images and anyone can help with that!

Castle Concept Art
Hello everyone, I was looking for some feedback on the design of this castle. So the story goes like this, There was a very evil and wealthy king who had a huge castle in the mountains where the winter never ends. In a huge battle he lost all his money and his castle was destroyed. Does the design portray the description? Thank you to anyone who takes the time to help me out.

Keyframe Art
Transforming words from the script to clear images that helps the director and the producers visualize key moments in the film. This example is the final fight between Vision and White Vision I designed for the Disney Plus series Wanda Vision. An extra added difficulty for this assignment is that I also was designing the costume for white vision. This took me about 45 hours to finish, not including revisions.

Obelisk from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Hi Everyone !
Here are some designs I did for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. This is the creature that swallows Drax in the opening sequence of the movie.
I am a senior visual development artist at Marvel Studios. I am one of the staff artist that help with designing the Heroes and Villains of the MCU as well as Keyframe production paintings to help visualize a scene. And sometimes I get to do fun creatures like this one!
I have been at Marvel for 8 years now and usually designing costumes so when I get to design some creatures it's really fun for me because I started my career as a creature designer some 20 years ago :)
anyway, hope you enjoy these crazy critters!

Prop / housing designs
Hi people!
I want to add some props to my portfolio, so I created a brief for myself, namely
"A culture living in a harsh, cold environment, with very limited resources, where enormous remains of whale like creatures scatter the landscape. They use these as basis for their housing as well as "worship" them to some degree, as the bones provide shelter and resources for tools and so on."
These sketches are still rather rough, but I wanted to get the overall designs down first, before going into more detail.
Any suggestions, advice, feedback and ideas appreciated! Thanks and happy drawing :)

Thumbnailing!!
By Rubén Frutos
Hey guys!
1 month ago I started doing daily thumbnail landscape sketches (1 per day) and I wanted to share with you the result and progress. First, I look up and gather a bunch of references of what I want to paint and look at them for like 5 or 10 mins, then I put them away and set the timer to 20 mins and start sketching!- this way I'm making sure that I spend the same amount of time everyday - This is great for seeing the progress, and also prevents me from overworking the thumbnails.
As always, any critique is welcome!
I also want to let you know that I'm going to keep doing this in case anyone wants to join me and share their progress aswell!

New Doctor Who personal project progress!
By Marcus
Hey everybody, here’s some drawings for a little project I’ve been working quite a bit on, a new Doctor who! I’m a big fan of the show and there’s just so much you could do with the amazing premise of the series. I’m working on some story ideas I’ll hopefully do some rough storyboards for eventually, and i definitely want to learn more about story structure and all that awesome stuff.
for now I’ve mostly just been having fun trying to work on the characters. And of course a bit of the tardis, really want to work more on that since designing rooms and hard surface stuff in general is way out of my comfort zone, but there couldn’t be a funner thing to design! I’ve been trying to write down ideas for characters and story to go off of and build, so that’s progressing too.
Since I am a fan of the show I need to try hard not to make it super similar to what’s already been made haha, need to come up with some new ideas!! Character development! I’ve only been learning a little so far, but learning about story structure and character building is extremely interesting and I’ve come to see how essential it is, even if I don’t become a writer lol. And bill Perkins visual storytelling class I’ve been slowly going though on NMA has been awesome as well for learning all sorts of mind blowing composition knowledge! Good stuff.
For the Tardis room I was trying to make it feel really spacious and focus on having very organic feeling shapes, hopefully give it an alien feel. Definitely need to do some more ideation in it,since there’s a lot of room to do something different, see all the different directions you could go. Also I need to work on not making all the same size shapes and sections, make more clear distinct big medium small. And I was trying to apply something I heard Steven Zapata talk about on designing rooms: never just make a box and put stuff in it. Think about different levels, interesting shapes and structures.
Just thought it’d be a good idea to show some ideas I’ve been working on, I’d of course appreciate any thoughts thanks!

I am thinking I may use brushes to ink in the background with some washes and then work in some more detail after that. I'll try pushing the shadowy figures and fish, etc. into the background some more as it could get a bit busy perhaps..
any tips on brushes for inks would be great also :)

My attempts to concept art

Hello people!
I love concept art and character reference sheets.
Since I was young I liked creating characters and now I want to work with that.
I've been seeing some concept art books from various games and also seeing many concept art artists and I realized that they all have a certain "technique" and way of working with concept art...
I had few concept art classes and myself I even tried to do some throughout my studies, so I wanted to know what I can improve and what I should learn.
I want to be a professional so all constructive criticism, tip and advice is welcome!
I'll leave some of my concept arts and so you can take a look ;)

Critiques Needed! Feel free to be as intense as needed!

Currently I am attempting to make my first portfolio for character design concepts. Below is the first design of 'Naked Mole Rat with Pants' as given to me by my Girlfriend. That is all she gave me so I went into it and came out with the below design.
The Blue pencils are the beginning stages of doodling naked mole rats, trying to find an idea. The Red pencils are the next evolution as I tried to find a personality, and the black inks are the 'final' design.
I am self taught and am trying to get myself ready to enter this industry. So please any and all critiques, observations, ANYTHING, fire away. I am here to learn!

Looking for feedback & advice
By Egor
Hi all, It's my first time posting art online to get feedback, any advice would be appreciated and I'll try my best to give concise context of what my goals with art are, but feel free to give any feedback based just on the artworks themselves, thanks in advance to anyone who spends time to reply!
First, a quick summary of my journey learning art up to this point. I'm 23 now, started to draw at about 14 but didn't really put any serious effort to learn the fundamentals up until 3-4 years ago, then I got into an art school for 2 years learning graphic design and academical drawing/painting but then dropped out due to life circumstances, and before that point I didn't really learn to draw digitally, but after 2 years of art school I got some grasp on drawing fundamentals and for the last year and a bit I was adapting to drawing digitally, I attached two of my best works so far to this post.
Now for the current goals, on the practical side of things I want to get a job making art, and so far I settled on being 2d artist for games as the most optimal career choice based on what I like to draw and what work is available locally, though I'm not hell-bent on gamedev specifically and the competitiveness of this field of work scares me off a good bit and the quality and quantity of work needed to get into the industry feels so far out of reach, so any advice on what should I do with my art to get closer to being employable as an artist would be appreciated.
On the more personal side of things, I really struggle with enjoying the process of making art and having a clear goal of what I want to do with art aside from the whole get a job drawing thing. I feel like my main problem with art now is more in the creative part rather than technical, though there's always more to learn, right now I feel like problems with the "creative" part of making art hold me back more than technical stuff.
I overall feel the lack of creative thinking behind my work, from all the information available online I have some rational understanding of what to do to, for example, design a character, but every time I tried to implement that understanding into making something I just get stuck in the coming up with ideas and setting a goal phase, so instead of getting some Idea of what I want to draw and having a plan I just rush in to draw first and ask questions later, because that way I get something done instead of getting bogged down in all the preparations.
As an example, the first image started as a quick pose doodle, then I tried to draw in some anatomy details for fun and thought about making her into a wrestler character, as far as the design at that point it was completely different, then I looked for some wrestler reference and tried to design a costume, but gave up on that after a few hours and instead went the cyborg route, still wanted too keep her a fighter archetype an thought about how maybe she'd be a character in a fighting game, but I couldn't come up with anything cohesive and instead focused on trying to make it look as good as I can. That took about 1-1,5 moths of on and off drawing with breaks every few days and by the end of it I had to drag myself to some semblance of completion because I had no concrete goal in mind and otherwise I could have spent twice as much time and gotten nowhere.
With the second image it was a lot simpler, I just took a pencil sketch I did a while back and did my best to make it look pretty, I think the whole process took me about 15-16 hours and there's a lot more time I could spend on polishing it but I feel like I hit diminishing returns on my effort and super detailed rendering of materials isn't something I'm ready to do for now.
At this point I feel like I lost my train of thought and I'm not sure what more information I could add that would be useful for giving feedback on my work and/or answering my questions, thanks again to anyone who replies to this.

Character Critique - Gatecrasher
By Steve Reaume
Hello all. This is my design for a minotaur slave, called a Gatecrasher, forced to fight and mutated by a highly volatile crystal strapped to his body (a variation of peridot, the supposed crystal of intensity). I'd love to get it critiqued.
Perspective is one of my weaker areas, so I made efforts to work foreshortening into the pose, but if you notice anything off, then I'd love (and hate) to hear about it. I've also attached a study of the character to show you his full body, though I did make some changes to the design in the final.

I started something I don't know how to finish
By Drewster H
Hey Guys!
This is my first time posting work here on Proko.
I’m a little nervous But don’t let that stop you from tearing me up. Here is a WIP I’m working on , I tried to plan out the lighting but I skimped on composition which may have cost me but I’ve failed to see how exactly. I’m really struggling with shadow, light, and texture. So, I would really appreciate any tips you might have, or any mistakes you spot. With your help I might be able to bring this piece up to a professional level so please show no mercy. Even if I fail and make it worse, you’ll save me a ton of time and effort next time.
You can think of the character as a vampire. Those two large masses on the left and right are the edges of large bat-like wings, the left wing has those bladed metal plates. I’m having a real problem making all that clear. I’m also not sure how to use those wings to improve the composition.
All feedback is welcome,
Thanks!

Concept Art critique
Bydeleted user
Hello people!
I recently remembered that I had purchased a character design & concept art class, so I started. Although he was more focused on the cartoonish character design, I continued taking the classes using my more realistic drawing.
He explained more about the silhouette (which I had some advice from you guys on) and also the costume design. I'm still in doubt if the drawings I've done so far are good. For you to have a better understanding, I'll explain the character quickly:
He is one of the main characters in my project. a 29-year-old man who lives in a remote village. He is a blacksmith and an ordinary villager who dreams of being someone important and seeing the world.
My choice of silhouette was for the pose.
I wanted a pose that emphasized sadness and shyness, but I had (I have, depending on your point of view) problems trying to draw the left arm (which is a mechanical arm), so I wanted suggestions for what to do in this case...
I immersed myself in medieval costumes and did some tests with the silhouettes. I want something simple to emphasize its origin.
As I already had some designs made by him, so I already had some idea of what I wanted..
Anyway, I accept all kinds of constructive criticism, tips and advice! I want to become a professional in this area.

Warrior Prince Concept Art
Hello everyone, I am looking for feedback on this Character Design.
He is the son of the Viking Leader (the second image). He is kind-hearted, unlike his father. He is Calm, Smart, and Brave. He is 20 to 25 years old. I am struggling with a few things,
1. I am struggling with making him look young and manly at the same time.
2. I am struggling to make him look royal and he just doesn't look like he is the son of a Viking Leader
3. His face just doesn't seem iconic to me, he looks like a generic soldier.
4. Also I am struggling with defining the material of the clothes.
I know that there are a lot of things but I would really appreciate it if you took the time to help me.

The environment is a deep ocean under a thick ice surface on one of the many moons of a super massive gas giant. -It's something similar to the Europa moon-

How do i check if my designs are clear or not?
Hi, im Carlos! im a begginer artist who is trying to get into concept design: i have been lucky enough to get into online communities where i can post my practices. Im currently doing some prop design sketches once a week.
Fundamentals in other areas of making images, like perspective or rendering are more clear to me, i know where to get the knowledge, but fundamentals of design are more vague.
How do i check if my designs are clear or not? i think design is more about making choices but how do i know if im doing the right choices-
The only principles that i can thing right now are this ones, this is my checklist
1. Function
2. Contrast
3. Big medium small
4. Shape motiffs and shape language

D&D Chara design - struggling with style
By Alex Galeri
Hi evryone! Here some drawings made for a D&D campaign (personal project). I had a lot of fun doing them, but I'm not so sure about the results: I like something a little "cartoony", but i don't think i have succeeded in rendering different materials. Any advice to improve? Or in your opinion it's better to use a more realistic style?

Knight design (FINAL?)
By Rubén Frutos
So here's the character after the critique some of you gave me, specially @seazeff who told me to tag him in the post.
I attached the previous version so you can compare.
Some of my thoughts:
I feel like I learned a lot with this one. I look back at what I posted here and it's almost as if a differente, less prepared person did it. I used to not apply critiques to the work that I considered "done" or "almost done". I said to myself that I'd do it for the next piece, which sometimes did not happen either cause the subject was different or cause I forgot. Well, this time I fought till the end and I couldn't be happier. Sure it's not perfect but compared to how it was you could almost say it is!! haha
Let me know what you think!

Human preservation tank design
Hi, could I receive feedback on my personal design for a discord challenge. The brief was to design a human preservation tank. I decided to try something different to the usual cylindrical scifi glass tube design, and instead went with a 40s/50s automobile design language, not unlike that in Fallout.
I have done a number of iterations, this is my third batch, and from here I plan to develop one (most likely B, or something new, if I do another batch, or edit them) into a more detailed 3/4 presentations.
My main struggle at the moment is to figure out the design of the metal part at the front. I was also struggling with making it look less like a vehicle, and more like its actual purpose. For this I made attempts to have it resemble a bed.
I would appreciate any critiques on the design. Thank you.

How to practice Appealing Shapes
By @vakarmalik
Hello,
Below is an attached image of my study of someone else`s work. Of course, the less impressive one is my study. XD
My question is not about how to copy better. I personally love and admire artworks with amazing shape language. I have been recently Practicing these types of images like the one attached below. My question is... Am I on the right track? Is there a better way to practice this? I really lack experience in backgrounds but I really want to get good at them So Show me a better way if you can please.
Thank you VERY much!

Character Design -Critique me pls
By Rubén Frutos
Hey! Here's a design I'm working on. I just wanted an honest critique on any matter: design, render, local values, color...
I thought of him as a royal guard that has bigger aspirations and will do whatever it takes to fullfill his purpose. The archetype could be somehow similar to Scar from the Lion King

hi all guys I don't know if this is the right section sorry if I'm wrong, I made this drawing to practice drawing from my imagination without using references, and I must say it's quite difficult, apart from the anatomy I'm studying I feel that there are errors especially in the part of the pelvis and legs, someone expert could help me understand and correct these errors thank you very much to all

Female Figure Squiggly Line drawings
Having some fun doing these line drawings for a recent commission for a friend. It was tricky figuring out line pressure and getting a style of line that I liked but I think I’ll do more of these and just put them up on Etsy to sell prints. I highly recommend finding a way to list your work for sale and with some print shops you don’t even have to do anything other than the original design.

Character design/concept for a knight II Critique much appreciated!
Hello there! I'm Nova, an aspiring writer & illustrator. I'm self taught and hope to learn from professionals, so I'm excited I found Proko 2.0 yesterday! Most of my works are illustrating a series of fantasy novels I write.
This right here is my first character sheet. Feel free to tell me what you think!
I'm looking forward to be part of this community.
Best wishes, Nova

Concept Vehical - Mobile Home
By @stinkbean
Hello everyone! Here's the concept - a fishtank on wheels that you can drive across the bottom of the ocean, into a volcano, through a Garth Brooks concert, any hazardous environment imaginable. Inside is enough space to construct a small town. Basically the ultimate version of the RV from The Wild Thornberries.
I need to improve on crosshatching and involving more dark values to define shapes. I am going to transfer to a piece of watercolor paper and try something I am more comfortable with.
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

First shot at a prop concept- need help understanding material spheres
Hey everyone, I'm trying to work on my design skills some more along with my fundamental training. I'd like to know more about the concept design process from peers here as well, instead of just online tutorials. I tried to spend as little time as possible on each of these, so I spent around 5-10 mins coming up with each design.
I picked a simple topic, prop design for games- an ancient, eastern, fantasy kitchen table set of sorts in line with The Elder Scrolls' fantasy artstyle. I started with a teapot.
I'd like your feedback and guidance with respect to design work before I go forward, particularly on how to render materials (or in this case a material sphere) for the 3D artist, and for my own reference when I begin to paint it out.

Looking for opinions/critique: character designs, style, quality
Hello everyone! I love to design characters, and I think I'm some kind of intermediate artist now. Fundamentals are still lacking, especially regarding human anatomy - but what I'd like to know is:
What exactly looks wonky about my artworks? Are they interesting or rather boring, and why? How high/low is their quality? Is my art style generic and how would you describe it? What does it feel like?
I know what I struggle to draw & to envision, I know many of my limitations very well, but these questions are just impossible for me to answer (well meaning friends & family can't either). If anyone would be willing to help me here, I'd be so happy. Thank you in advance!

Critique please! Elf girl composition
By Cody Laflin
Hello! I have been doing digital art for about a year now and before that I mainly did reference work. I've found that I really enjoy character design and illustration, in about half of my projects I would say that I just can't get past a certain point, whether its finding the piece uninteresting or the I don't like the color palette; I just cannot move past it, it feels off, and I don't like wasting my time when I could be doing something better for it.
This is a piece that I started and I was really enjoying how it was coming out, in the composition/color/design wise however I just feel stuck now. I tried to move forward and start blending some of the shades however I don't know if it's the color palette or the brush I'm blending with?!? To say the least, I am frustrated and I would greatly appreciate and feedback!

First attempt at drawing from imagination
By James Doane
I have been drawing for a long time, but I always used references. I was never able to draw from imagination... but I always wanted to. I tried these from imagination. I did the 'scribble until something appears' type of approach and just created some quick characters. I was not going for any level of detail... just wanted something that looks like a character. I did each of these in just a few minutes a piece. Let me know what you think of my first attempt... I am open to comments and critiques.

Palace Concept Art
Hello everyone, I was designing this palace for a personal project. I did the silhouette iterations as suggested by @Josh Sunga and I landed on this design as my final design. I was really struggling with the colors of the palace and I wanted some help with it from you guys.
This palace belongs to a very prosperous king. The palace is huge and below the castle live the common people. It is based in medieval (not medieval European just medieval) times and is situated in a deserty landscape (not too deserty like Alladin but with a little greenery.) It has a big river flowing beside it.
I wanted help with the colors and if you have any suggestions regarding the design then please let me know as well. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day ahead.
PS I have also attached the reference sheet that I used

Character design + 3D sculpt
By Rubén Frutos
Hey Guys!
I haven't been active at all in the last month, but I was pretty loaded with class work.
This is a character I had to design for class. The description I was given: "British spy. Female. Shanghai. 1937"
After getting to the desired design, I had to scultp the character in Zbrush. This was my first ever full figure done in 3D, so it was quite challenging.
Let me know your thoughts!! Thanks!
