ART IS ART

I submitted this in a competition by an art store, but unfortunately, I didn't win. Basically, they want something that shows the knowledge and creativity gained through books and sharing your favorite books with others. That's not exactly it but that's what I remembered from their instructions. This was inspired by Guillermo Del Toro's color scheme and vibe

Hey Raphaelle, I like the vibe of this piece, pretty cool. What I think you have to do when working out poses, is to fill it in to see the silhoette it makes. This is the eyes first read of the pose, and it should be clear. In your pose, the left arm is missing, and when I fill in the pose, the silhoette looks unclear. I did a quick sketch to show you how you could fix that. As far as your painting, it's also a little confusing. Mostly because you have light areas that shouldn't be in the dark areas, and the color temp of the light is all over the place. I did a quick paint over to show you what I mean, I hope all this is helpful :)

Oh I love this movie! so I made this digital painting using @Marco Bucci 's techniques. It's so fun doing brushworks. Tell me guys what you think. :)) (1st pic- my work; 2nd pic- my ref)

I am having fun learning David Finch's tutorials on yt cuz I couldn't afford lessons here yet. Any advice on my sketches?
RaphaelleDae
You're really doing good. I was also stuck at improving, but learning about different artists and watch their tutorials helped me in every way like playing with colors, making the painting look so much fun(I recommend Marco Bucci), studying perspectives, compositions and anatomy(David Finch). When I discovered these people, I was drawing for 2 straight days, I just cant stop haha.

I enjoy using Marco Bucci's tutorials on this portrait.

I am obsessed with how Marco Bucci does paintings, so I kind of applied it with my portrait of Dominique Jackson.

Since I was oil painting before I learned digital, I wanted to feel like I was painting traditionally, so I did this with only one layer and it feels awesome. Mine is on the left.
RaphaelleDae
It's either under or over the water, idk you pick. I did this months ago and I had fun doing this cuz of the colors. What do you guys think?

Hey @RaphaelleDae! I'd love to see how this ended up or if you did anymore! If you did want to push the concept more, it'd be cool to explore different ways the character could relate to the lizard. Either way, I like the painterly quality you have in these!

hello! thank you for this. I dont know why some of my paintings end up looking kind of darker than what I intended it to be, but I would def push the concept.
