Self Portraits through the years
Hey all! I'm so glad Proko 2.0 is finally a reality, and I'm hyped about what this community will become!
As my first post here, I'd like to share a few self portraits that I've made over the years. I like seeing them and think about the things that have change in my skills, my techniques and in me personally.
I think everyone should paint a self portrait once in a while. It's a very special experience.

Gouache master studies
Some older gouache master studies I did when I was going to Watts atelier, was always my favorite class. I definitely need to start doing them again. Anybody else like doing these?
(The artists are Alma Tadema, Craig Mullins, and Frank Brangwynn.)

My weird gouache paintings
By Yiming Wu
So I have been doing MapCrunch street view paintings for some time as a practice for drawing scenes, I started doing that at the mid of 2019, I call this practice "Cloud Travel", which happened to make a lot of sense in the covid situation XD.
Recently I started to give those Cloud Travel images some twists on top of the original street views, so here it goes! Hope you guys dig it.
I post my stuff on Artstation and also my personal blog gallery:

Three roosters - which is your favourite ?
I’m so sick of this poor rooster, but I’m sure he’s even more sick of me 😂 I have painted the same rooster (reference attached) three times now in three different styles. I’d love to hear any critiques, and which rooster (if any) is your favourite?

Quick digital paint sketches
By James Doane
I like to do quick digital painting 'sketches' to practice being loose during painting. I get asked a lot about my minimal brushstroke type of style, and this is one of my secrets to getting better at that style. I pick a theme, and then I do quick paint sketches to try to just capture likeness and emotion without using too many brush strokes. I don't try to get a lot of detail, actually I focus on the opposite. Here are a few of my examples. Comments welcome!

Figure on the easel
Started painting on this one last week and i'm super excited to keep developing it. Started sketching it in using transparent iron red oxide and then went in at put down general colours and values in a thin wash. Currently adjusting the values and temperatures of the painting while refining the drawing.

Proko Portrait! - Let me know what you think!
By SLEW
Hey guys! SLEW here,
This is a 14x18 inch portrait in oil I did of Mr. Proko! It was a challenging project for me for a few reasons! First, the reference photo I grabbed from google was pretty small and low res... which made it hard to really see some of the nuances of the details. Although challenging in that regard, the lack of detail actually helped me focus on big shapes and perhaps ignore detail in the beginning stages. (I tend to try and fish out detail too quickly within the painting process. Another reason It was challenging is that I do not usually do portraits this big. I usually like to work with smaller faces! 14x18 is actually the largest portrait I've painted to date. More paint and more surface area.. challenging but really fun. I spent a few days attacking this bad boy and probably put around 10 hours into the painting. I think overall I went a little too white with the lights.. another issue of mine is I start with too high of a value in the lights and then I don't have a lot of room to push it even lighter with highlights... it becomes a little chalky with too much white paint. But I wanted to make a very illuminated portrait as well as bring a lot of chroma and variation in color. The teeth also killed me, I think I could have represented them simpler and not try to have them look super realistic. All and all I am happy with this painting and glad I gave it a shot! I've attached a few process pictures including a 90 min pencil sketch to warm up. Next week I will be releasing a full video on my YouTube channel going through every step of this project! Please feel free to give me a critique! I am hungry for other people's opinions!

Digital portrait studies
By Tim Dosé
Hi all
Here are a few portrait studies from a digital portrait painting class I took over the winter with Steve Forster. I've mostly painted traditionally and this class really helped me get over a hump with digital painting.
