Digital portrait studies

Hi all
Here are a few portrait studies from a digital portrait painting class I took over the winter with Steve Forster. I've mostly painted traditionally and this class really helped me get over a hump with digital painting.
Hi Tim, they are great!
I like the way you've used certain brushes to add texture, especially in the girl's hair in the last portrait, where it adds an abstract, pop feel without detracting from the verisimilitude.
Brilliant!
Thanks, Serena! That one was a cool exercise. Steve had us find a few images from different artists that we really liked, and then had us use stuff from those images. I chose pieces from Mark English and Keita Morimoto. Sometimes we just pulled motifs or patterns from the pictures (the obvious example is the circles and triangles from the Mark English pieces), but sometimes we even literally pulled parts of the other pieces into ours and fit them in (some examples attached). It was super fun, and I was pleased how it came out! When I finish some other responsibilities I want to do more of these

These are great! I especially like the second one.
Thank you! That one was fun. The teacher challenged us to use as many of the craziest brushes we could find.
