My weird gouache paintings

So I have been doing MapCrunch street view paintings for some time as a practice for drawing scenes, I started doing that at the mid of 2019, I call this practice "Cloud Travel", which happened to make a lot of sense in the covid situation XD. Recently I started to give those Cloud Travel images some twists on top of the original street views, so here it goes! Hope you guys dig it. I post my stuff on Artstation and also my personal blog gallery: https://www.artstation.com/nicksbest http://www.wellobserve.com/index_gallery.html

love the greyscales and really love the first one and the third one. I kind of feel a mix of things being surreal and 'things will escalate in a second' vibe.

I really enjoy these paintings! They remind me of Mark Tansey, have you heard of this painter? I think his content is similar to yours, the sort of stories he tells in this paintings.

Beautiful work, Yiming. The way you use value structure and perspective is inspirational. If you don't mind answering, what size are these paintings? Thanks for sharing!

The first three are A4 (smaller, because I cropped margins), the last one is A3.

I really like the way you manage to tell the story in one image. I like the fact that at first glance they look like everyday images but with those little quirky elements that make the viewer curious and want to know more. How long does it take you to make one of these images?

Hi! That's what I'm trying to achieve, telling uncommon things in common places :D Typically 2-3 hours or a bit longer depends on the complexity of the image structure, that's for black and white, for colour ones like the last one, it took about 5-7 hours I do it in 2 days because I have such nasty habit of mixing colours so it's not very efficient.

It's awesome how you turn a photo reference into your own by adding a twist, it makes each image much more interesting! These are also excellent paintings!

Thank you! I do this practice mostly as trying to put stuff inside an existing scene and try to see if I can match the lighting scenarios. I hate mixing colour though, because I have such a tiny palette and it gets dirty quickly and I'm lazy enough to leave it that way XD so mostly I prefer doing black and white gouache paintings.
