This is a self portrait I painted a couple of years ago.

Using a highly saturated background in a portrait seems unusual but works surprisingly well. The less saturated flesh tones and dark clothing actually contrast really well against the background. This almost turns the compositional idea of saving highest saturation for the focal points on its head. A lot of portraits actually seem very sombre because of dark backgrounds, but this is lively. Very interesting. Obviously, the execution is quite realistic and well done, so there's not much to comment on there.
