These look really cool! Looks like you’re in an interesting learning process, @Gannon Beck, I’m curious to see more of how it goes. Good job!

Thanks, Liandro! I guess I shouldn't be surprised--but I am a little--that this is helping me so much with my digital work. I've been coloring some comic book pages lately, and thinking like a painter is turning out to be advantageous.

These are pretty good!I think you captured Leyendecker's shape design and a little bit of his brushmanship. Do you want critique?(and if so,please tell me what you're trying to get out of him)

At this point, I'm trying to get a feel for the medium. I did a bunch of black and white heads, followed by a Frazetta black and white master study. The plan from here is to do eight heads with a Zorn palette, than do one or two Zorn palette master studies. I'm going to do one using a Norman Rockwell painting, and I'll determine the second one once I see how that goes. So that's context of what I'm trying to get out of these particular heads and where I am in the learning process. While these aren't perfect, they're serving their purpose of getting me exposed to the medium, figuring out how thin or thick to use the paint, what brushes to use, etc. While I have no intention to redo these particular heads, if you see anything I'm doing or not doing that I can change going forward with the next set, by all means, drop some knowledge. On a side note, until I did these studies, I hadn't realized how few colors Layendecker used in some of his paintings. This exercise was eye-opening in that way.
