Finished Ahmed Aldoori's 100 heads challenge. I'd appreciate some tips
Hello, I'd appreciate some tips on drawing less defined faces.
The problem:
Less defined faces are harder to capture accurately. They look cartoonish at best.
Older people have more forms to "anchor onto" and they flow from one to another easily.
Younger people have... not-so-tightly knit together forms(?). Example: You'd have the nose sink into the void of a smooth face and I can't relate to it for other features.
Notes:
- I can spend 30 mins on 1 sketch of an older head, this can't apply to younger heads since there's just not that much to add.
- When it comes to likeness, I found it's better for me to just estimate and triangulate/ drop verticals instead of going for Loomis' approach.
- Old people have many bumps, meaning if I don't draw a bump accurately, it's barely noticeable.
- Young people have only facial features and smooth skin, meaning if I miss the eyelashes' shape by a tiny margin it's instantly noticeable.
- If I measure everything perfectly, capture accurate shapes and proportions, the best I get is a cartoonish version of the reference. (or an ugly version)
- If I don't accurately capture the same things on older people though, it's not that big of a deal and still looks similar.
- shading smooth skin is harder than stark plane transitions resulting in high contrast.
- If I don't put any shading at all it looks even worse.

Burning Out from Extensive Notes
By An
Hello all! I have been working on the Proko Anatomy course (I have not done the figure drawing course though) and I have been burning out way too quickly. I think it has to do with the notes I'm taking and I'm not sure if I should keep going with my current strategy or take another approach. All of these notes are really spaced out since I do some and then get tired/unmotivated. I'm also in school so it seems as though this isn't the priority when I think of where to focus my energy. I have tried to limit my notes, but I keep thinking that every piece of information is important. I don't know what to do! If anyone has tips for how to keep from burning out or what to do about my notes would be really appreciated. (Or if taking notes is even necessary) *Sorry for the bad images, it's the morning and I'm a bit shaky*

Accurate skeleton proportions?
Hi, I'm working on a drawing for my uncle. The perspective was difficult so I chose to plan the pose of the figure orthographicaly. I will use the back and side view to transfer it into perspective, the way Scott Robertson shows in "How to draw". I feel confident about these, but it would be nice to have another set of eyes looking at them. My main concern, is wheather the proportions seem accurate, but feel free to critique other stuff too.
Thanks in advance!

I'm learning to draw animals - Horses
Hi, just wanted to share this 7 min drawing of a horse (from reference).
For the last 2 & 1/2 weeks I've been focusing on animals.
I started by watching Marshall Vandruff's introduction to animal anatomy, then learned the mannequin suggestion and the proportions of the horse from the Famous Artists School book. Then I practiced some until I felt like a had a decent grip on it.
This week I've been digging into the details of horse anatomy and studied Goldfinger's book. Next week will be practice, practice, practice.

Doing/re doing the entire Proko Anatomy course by Sep 30th (47 days)
By Melissa Cook
Inspired by @Sol Art! and his 30 day challenge I will be attempting to do over the entire course. I have already completed around 61% of the course before over a longgg time. Forgot things on and off while also trying to complete. Thought this would be nice to review the things in earlier lessons and finally just complete the thing! I am giving myself 47 days to hopefully cushion the blow of any possible burnout. Also I will not be studying at all on Sundays to give myself at least one day to absorb everything I'm cramming in my brain. Technically because of that the amount of days I will be studying will be 41 days. Did the tracing lesson today! Super helpful to track my progress for when the challenge ends as well. I will do a before and after of the tracings for sure! So down below is what I know at this moment, definitely not satisfied considering I have forgotten a lot of stuff and also I am not confident about where I'm placing everything. There are some areas where I know almost nothing as well, such as the forearms, and some parts of the legs. I hope putting this here will help encourage me!

Correct proportions?
By Mattias Wirf
I posted this on social media and got some weird comments, about that she looks short and the bottom to fat and such. It was on reddit though, so I'm not sure if I should to much attention to that ;)
I'm a little bit unsure about the right arm, I always think it's hard when they are stretched out like that.
But in general I'm pleased with how it turned out. Or I have turned blind to it, looking at it too much...

Anatomy and Figure Drawing Studies
By Marcus
Hey everyone, here's some anatomy stuff i've been working on, i'm actually taking Scott Eaton's anatomy for artists course right now which is really awesome and intense!! I can't wait to solidify my understanding of anatomy in a more focused study, and clear up my anatomy blind spots and misconceptions! of course Proko has been a huge asset in gaining anatomy knowledge, but different programs offer different things, I have my reasons!! Hopefully I won't be banished from the site for treason against proko. ;(
Anyway these skeleton studies are from Gottfired Bammes's drawings, awesome architectural-like design, simple planes, and perspective to the skeleton! any thoughts crits or feedback are very appreciated!

Muscle charts
By Jason Winter
I've been told that one of the best ways to learn something is to create a project for yourself. In the course of learning muscle names, I created these charts, using Eliot Goldfingers "Human Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form", and Joseph Sheppards "Anatomy: A Complete Guide for Artists" as guides. I've posted them here. Hopefully they may be of use to some of you.

Some of my favorite heads from the 100 head Challenge
I finished the 100 head challenge yesterday. Since I could only attach 10 images. I just picked some of my better ones. (I do have all of them uploaded into an album on my profile though.)
Some of the first heads I drew took about an hour each, but eventually I got into a good groove doing each head in about 20-30 minutes.
I feel like I got a lot more comfortable with drawing heads especially the initial loomis setup and feature placement.
I utilized some of the Riley Rhythms for getting a feel for the cheeks and jaw.
I picked 2 of my own images from the end because for some reason I ended up short a few images and I drew 101 because I accidentally duplicated one of the sculptures without realizing it.
Anyway it was a lot of fun and I will miss drawing heads.

How do I get good at anatomy if I don't know wtf I'm doing.
By Paul Z
I've been studying anatomy primarily using Proko's premium course, copying the 3D models of bones and muscles from different angles. I've definitely learned alot and gotten decent at copying them but whenever I draw from reference, all the knowledge gets jumbled and I can't see what's under the skin. I feel like I hit a road block where I have no idea if I'm doing anything right. Of course I can look at many different examples and compare against mine they usually don't correspond exactly with the pose I'm using. Of course I don't have the luxury of someone critique my every drawing but I just wonder how other people have overcome not knowing if they're doing anything right. My goal is being able to draw the figure accurately from any angle but there is just so much confusion.
First 3 drawings are some of my best ones. 4th drawing is what usually happens.
Critiques are very welcome.

🙋🏻♀️Help needed! Core shadow shape design
By CC Kuang
Hi everyone, I've been practicing anatomy for 2 months, and just finished the torso portion. My goal this week is to tackle core shadow shape design, which Stan uses a lot in his example videos.
I really like the highly stylized shapes seen in @Stan Prokopenko and @Lane Brown 's drawings as shown below (Watt's style, I guess?) , but I can't figure out the logic behind it. To be specific, my questions are:
1️⃣ how to balance being loyal to the reference photo and creating dynamic shapes?
2️⃣how to blend sharp lines or soft edges in an interesting way?

Leg and foot studies

I enjoy working along with Prokos videos, stopping and starting them, sometimes I copy his drawing, sometimes I focus on the photo and just follow his processes. Slowly it all begins to sink in. What I'm most focused on is the idea that with some anatomical knowledge you can begin to design the image rather than just slavishly copy a photo, that's very empowering.

Reference diagrams
As a sculptor it’s really important to understand the skeleton. Even more important than the muscles because the skeleton lets you know where the muscles are headed. Here’s some references from my ebook “An Artist’s X-Ray Vision: The Male Figure” that was basically just an assignment I gave myself to help myself and others “see” the anatomy better. I’d like to do more of these in the near future!

Head Drawing - Practicing Mass Conception and Anatomy
Hi, the first half of this term I'm practicing drawing the head.
This is a drawing that started with a focus on pure masses: I tried to ignore the anatomy (to a certain point) and just try to think of the head as abstract masses. Then I went in and started to think about the muscles and bones and tried to see what masses they contributed to. I think I'll work a little more on it, I didn't have time to analyze the zygomatics, jaw and ear for example, but I wanted to show what I've done with it so far
Cheers!

Help needed for eyebrow placement
Hi guys.
I hope it's ok to post here.
I've been working hard on heads lately and I've taken a side trip to the Watts academy of Arts atelier classes on portraits.
I'm mostly struggling with the placement of the eyebrows in the relation to the bone structure of the skull.
On the drawings provided by teachers, the brow line seems to point downward, but on many references, it's pointing upward (I hope it makes sense, see pic below).
I'm practicing tracing the planes of the head on photos and 3D models to get a better understanding of 3D and space, but I have a really hard time adapting the planes of the brow area, I'm never satisfied with them. I'm afraid I'm doing it wrong.
I hope someone could help me ^^O
I've joined pictures without annotations as exemples, and if anyone wants to trace over them.
Thanks a lot!

Ribcage and Torso Form Exploration
By Bo Han Qiu
Extending from upper-body life drawing, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the bones beneath our skin — silently supporting our everyday movements. But for now… I wouldn’t mind not seeing any more meat with bones in it .
It reminds me of that episode from Love, Death & Robots, The Drowned Giant,
where the giant’s body slowly decomposes back into nature after being submerged in seawater, leaving only the lonely bones standing on the beach — like a dark version of Gulliver’s Travels.

Did some gesture drawing and i dont know how to feel about this stuff. Its so hard to relax and just do the motion. I am constantly tense and my nervs stand on edge every time i try this. And i just feel like i am just drawing random lines. Are they suppose to be this bad in the begining? I sure hate them and want to throw them all away. But i know i cant because i need to have them to compare and see if i have gotten better with time or not. But back to gesture drawing. I am very new to this stuff and i am not good with timers. it causes me to panic and think "oh god i have to finish it within said seconds oh god oh god oh god!" I will say this now because lets be honest here no one will even look at this let alone give feedback. The only once that get feed back on this site are the people that can already do Leonardo da vinci stuff and then pose "plz give me feed back so that i can stroke my ego".
PS. Sry for that last part. just wanted to vent a bit. Tho then again its not like anyone will help me anyway. After all i am not Leonardo da vinci. wink wink.

How to approach learning Bridgman? + some Animal sketches, critique appreciated
Greetings Prokosauruses,
I've been trying to sharpen up my anatomy skills and this is what I am starting off with, I'd like to know if this is the correct approach- I feel like I was copying too much from Bridgman's strokes. I've watched Proko's video on the matter, but I'd like to hear what everyone else has to say as well. I am referencing Bridgman's Constructive Anatomy book
The other image includes some animal sketches I've done following Ken Hultgen's book. At the moment I'm trying to internalize these simple shape patterns, but I don't want to risk overanalyizing as that has led me to lose interest in anatomy before. Critique appreciated, thanks

Recent anatomy studies: crits appreciated!!
By Marcus
Hey all im super hyped to join this awesome new platform!! I've been taking learning art seriously for about two years, focused on the fundementals, particularly the figure, with an aim to increase my overall draftsmanship skills and be able to draw from imagination. I love gesture and structure! My current career goal I want to build the skills toward is storyboarding. I've recently been shifting my focus into anatomy, since I believe that's where some of my problems are coming from, like inaccuracy in stylization. I've noticed I have some kind of style, while some of it is likely the result of my ignorance, I also love to study awesome artists I love old and new, so that's likely had some influence too!
The focus of these pages is mostly on the legs and shoulder region, but there's a few other things mixed in. most of these are drawn from models, proko videos, or a few Micheal Hampton studies. there are some gesture drawings that are less focused on anatomy too. I would highly appreciate any critiques and thoughts, I want to find my weak points and conquer them!! if you'd like to check out more of my work you can see it in my albums Thanks much.

Would love to get some critique on these. I feel like the proportions and the anatomy isn't too bad but I just struggle with getting the right likeness. When I have to, I'm usually able to get a reasonable likeness with using a bit of the liquify tool after the sketch is done but I'm trying to learn how to get it without using liquify.
Glad to hear any comments:)

How to maintaing the facial features consistent? C&C?
I was exercising my mental library with some dirty sketches, but after the first head I feel like I messed up the facial features. Any tips on how to maintain the features consistent?

Looking Natural
By @paulr
Hi, I am in the process of drawing three figures looking at a painting. I was wondering if there are any fundamental anatomy mistakes that I can fix?
I am not used to drawing from my imagination, so I can't immediately identify what I should fix.
For instance, I am struggling with the lady in the top right. Besides fixing the eye, I feel like the tilt of the head or the shoulders is unnatural. Any feedback would be helpful!

Looking for Diagnosis
Long time fan of Proko (and I believe he once answered a question from me on a livestream so we're basically family, he and I) in need of some help.
Any chance anyone could give my work here a quick critique? I consider this drawing fairly representative of my current output. It's entirely from invention, and I did try to work it out via a detailed series of under-drawings (which I've not included, but can on request).
Am I on the right track? Is this piece at least somewhat anatomically correct?

Hey all, here are some of my recent quicksketches. I usually work with reilly rhythms then transitioned them to a more finished drawing. Let me know what you think.

By Nick Lyre

looking for critiques for torso study
By @shoepin
Hello, I'm just a learning newbie here and I like to get some feedbacks on a torso study. I've read some books, watched a lot of videos, just devouring as many knowledge as I can, but I barely get any feedbacks from anyone, so I was hoping I could get ones from here. Thank you all in advance and have a great day!

Mannequin drawing, feedback requested! please.
By @krrish2006
Hi, looking for any kind of critique. I know that feet could've been more proportionate and legs could've been thinner. Except that if you can give any feedback that'll be helpful and also confirming that am I right about my own critique would also be nice

Norman Reedus - Portrait
By Sean K
Hello everyone! I totally forgot about posting this here. I already finished it a few months back and gave it away to my friend, who commissioned it. I'm just wondering what you think about it and am grateful for any critique. Thank you!

Robo bean critique
By Wenhan Lee
Hello,
As a novice at figure drawing, I've wanted to study the torso more in-depth. But to make sure I got the basics down, I did three 2-min gesture drawings with robo beans.
It's been a while since I have drawn robo beans, so constructive criticism is appreciated. References are in the comment section down below. Thanks.
