2023/3/30. Good afternoon everybody. Here's my latest illustration. There are a lot of mistakes in the perspective but I feel like I'm getting more and more familiar with "mecha" illustrations anytime I try to draw one. Thanks for your comment.

Hmmm... bean salad.
I honestly liked drawing these, though I did feel like I've exaggerated a bit too much on some. Gotta practice the twist a bit more (no I won't dance)
Critique is always welcome!

2-min poses. But I couldn't do them under the time limit. Feedback are welcome

You dont have to finish the whole pose in 2 minutes. Sometimes some poses are very difficult, so you may wish to only get the torso in the 2 minutes. ive been drawing for 2 years, and 2 minutes is still too short for me

More gesture drawings with the accompanying reference. Really struggled on a couple of them. Feedback welcome.

I think the top abs for the male model are too narrow. They appear to we wider on the photo references. Good job though.

Draw Skelly Assignment, these were fun and a bit tricky on getting the perspective right. The pelvis shape was giving me some problems so I had to practice some cylinders at different angles and it got a bit easier. The spine was tricky as well to place sometimes. I started focusing more on the gesture of the poses as I went on. Whole thing took me about 3 hours because I was determined to fix mistakes. Any critique would be appreciated.
3mo
For your drawings on the right for both your images, remember the spine will always follow the curve of the rib cage at the back center line. Those ones seem a bit off. But nice job though.

Started off the first one copying more than simplifying, then I started to realize I need to care less about exact shapes and more on form and simple designs. I didn’t have much trouble beside the hands and how I should simplify the elbow. It actually was quite relaxing because I wasn’t worried about detail, I could have detailed more if I wanted to, but didn’t feel that was the point of this assignment. Any critique would be nice. I spent about an hour on whole thing.

Wow great job. I think your rib cage is too small, but everything looks 3d so it doesnt really matter.

I have to accept that I have been struggling with shading hand and dealing with details on the hand.

I made a mistake of trying to hide some of the lines for my shapes by erasing them, then remembered I'm supposed to leave those in. Had a pretty hard time struggling to figure out how to get the right pen pressure since I'm not used to drawing with digital. I also didn't fully understand what was meant by "make every edge sharp" I think I did that for most of them except for maybe on top right quarter of the pear? I'm really unsure. Any critique would be much appreciated! :D
Also, idk if I should be doing the beginner or the intermediate version. The only course I've done before was DrawABox by Irshad Karim and got through like 98% of it, pretty much rage quit halfway through lesson 7 though I might come back & finish it later. I didn't receive any critique doing that course as I did the free version. So if someone can tell me whether I should do beginner or intermediate version that'd be great, cuz I can't really tell. (maybe both? idk)
Thanks in advance!
Also, how do I do the "asked for help" thing I saw on other posts? I'd love to get critique from one of the mods/instructors.

You did a great job, well done. I think you could make the background one more value step down, so it doesnt have the same value as the light half tones. It makes the pear pop out. see my edit in the image. Do you see what i mean?
Making edges sharp basically means dont blend the values together. You want to break the pear down into planes. which you have basically done!
I dont have this course, but I'm pretty sure you can do both, based on what Stan has said. You can always redo the course and try the intermediate assignments, if you want.
You can tag an instructer (or anyone really) by using "@" symbol. Good luck with this course!

Trying to understand some concepts of drawing the bean with the examples provided by Proko.
Criticism is highly welcomed.
3mo
You have the right idea. Some of your beans just look like two seperate ovals, they dont look combined. Maybe trying doing a main gesture line first and placing the ovals along with the gesture. See my example below. Notice how in my last bean, I simply changed the overlap line direction. Now the bean looks like its in a different position.

Hello Proko Community, here is my work for the landmark chapter. I've been having trouble giving my figures some anatomy, is it mandatory to look at anatomy books to do this figure course if I havent bought the anatomy course yet? Finally, what exactly am I trying to achieve with this landmark exercise? Is it just to help with proportions and to keep my drawing accurate from the reference. Thank you!
3mo
You are correct. Especially with boney landmarks. A person can gain weight and lose weight, and the boney landmarks will still be at the surface of the skin. Which makes them reliable reference areas of the body when trying to draw the figure.
Also I dont believe the figure drawing course requires the anatomy course (I checked the course page).

Hi! This is my second time through the course and there's something I've yet to figure out.
The centre line travels through the torso, but when I'm extending it down the leg I struggle with whether it should be travelling down the middle or the side of the leg.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
3mo
Hi James. There are no rules to this. It's based of what you think is best depending on the pose. Look at the examples I did below. Which one do you think fits better? or do you think there is a better solution? I hoped this gave you some help.

once again back at it with the gesture part of the figure course for the last week. Right now just using previous criticisms for this new pose.
I managed to again see that the Torso isn’t going with the flow like the rest of the body is. I guess my weaknesses are Shoulders & Torsos.
Any Future Criticisms are welcomed!

Hi friend, just letting you know its very difficult to see your drawings. From what I can see, its looks like you're trying to capture the overall gesture of the body. I can see you have some uncomiited lines. Like you wanted to draw a big stroke, but backed off. I think you should just go for it because you can just try again very quickly.

I made corrections to my job after I saw the video. I believe that I had problems understanding the coccyx structure, can you tell me how can I understand better this form in perspective? anyway I share it
3mo
From your drawings its looks like you are understanding the structure already? You have a bird beak shape with a square base, which is the basic shape. I think you did a good job

First try advice and critique appreciated! Secound refrence from Marcus Ranum.

Nice try on these. I can definitely say the the left scapular is incorrect for for your first image. When the arm is up like that, the scapular is very flared out. see below (reference, proko)

I spent time to work on my shapes as well as simplifying animals. Any constructive criticism is much appreciated.

It's great that you are well aware of perspective. In your first couple of drawings I can see the perspective is off for many of the drawings. Trying drawing in a simple perspective grid so you know where your lines need to head. You'll eventually get use to it will rely less on the grid. Good luck.

Im guessing i need to be a lot more careful and technical for this assignment. I have a hard time with more technical drawings and I may have rushed this one a bit. Advice?
4mo
It looks like you are having trouble with perspective. Try breaking things down into simple shapes. The rib cage can be drawn as a simple egg with a center line. It's easier to fit the individual ribs inside the egg than starting off with ribs. Also something that might help is to ghost your perspective lines in. See my examples. Keeping in mind the perspective has always helped me in my studies. Good luck.
