Revisited the forearms today. I'm trying to work on understanding pronated arms. What I'm most unsure of in this tracing is the placement of the flexor carpi radialis. I'm wondering if it should be more to the left? It feels a little like I forced the brachioradials to the right in order for the two muscles to touch. What are your thoughts?

Hi @Jesper Axelsson , that looks correct. Below is a snapshot from an anatomy book with the same gesture for your reference.

Hi @Jesper Axelsson , maybe you can check into Watts Atelier's courses? I am actually taking his online one for drawing now and feel like I have filled up a lot of gaps for fundamentals. Although I haven't taken his painting courses, based on my experience with drawing, his course is very structured and detailed. It may be worth checking out. Hope that helps!

First of all, this is well done. Very well done. The structure and anatomy stand out immediately and the values are well presented. I think that the only way to take this further would be to complete the lower torso. The lumbar is implied, but it feels as though the upper body doesn't have any support.

I like this! Such a strong pose. I think what could help would be focusing on the center of gravity.

Hey Nicole, thats a really good drawing. I couldnt do that at all. The only thing that I think you should add is the same kind of beautifull shading to the face. You have drawn out the facial features but not shaded it so that area seems unfinnished. The only anatomy part that looks off is his sixpack. Particularily the three packs further away may be too bulgy. You might wanna look at the Abdominal Muscles in general. I think the Pectoral in the front doesnt connect properly to them! Besides that I think your drawing is amazing!

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone could help me figure out if the bean I drew for this pose is accurate. :)

Hi ana_101, these are really nice robo beans. The only thing I can think of is beware of the length difference between the torso part and the pelvis part. The torso part should be longer than the pelvis part. In some of the beans where no foreshortening occurred, the length of torso was drawn the same length as pelvis. Hope that helps!

Hello everyone, Below is my torso drawing based on a photo from Watts on Bridgman book. I would love to get your opinion/critique on my design and where to improve. Thank you!

Hello everyone, Below are my latest drawings. I have been focusing on improving the likeness of portraits and shading techniques. I feel like I have made some progress since last posts but definitely still lots to learn. Would love to get your opinions on where I can improve. Many thanks :)

Hello everyone, Below is my sketch and design for the back muscle, reference photo attached. The proportion might not be exactly the same as the reference, but as long as it still looks aesthetically sound I'm ok. Would love to hear your opinion on how the design looks and if there's anywhere I can improve. Thank you in advance!

ma'am this is amazing , just a few pointers . I think think the separations of the light and the shadow area should be more recognisable (the core shadow ) and lastly the local value of the hair and the lips are always darker than the skin tone . rest it looks great :).

Thank you so much @shanmen riddi for those pointers and showing me how it will look much better with proper values :)

These are really awesome! Not sure how true to the reference you were intending to go, but if you were then the bridge of the nose shapes need to be straightened out a bit. I think in the second one, the additional shape adds, but in the first drawing, the lack of structure makes the nose a bit wavey

Hi @Smithies thank you for pointing that out. I was trying to stay true to the reference for the face shape. Will definitely pay more attention to the angularity next time!

Hi! They are both great studies! About the first one. I think you can push more the shadow mass on the right. The eye socket should be darker than the cheek. Also, I think you accentuated too much the angles of the face on the right (see attached) and on the nose.

Thank you @Giulio D'Amico for those pointers. Definitely agree with your suggestions and will pay more attention on those areas next time!

Hello everyone, I received many great critiques in the past about my head drawing proportion and shading issues, so I decided to spend more effort in correcting them. Below are a few practices I did recently and it would be great to get someone's opinion again on where to improve. Just a note that for the second drawing, I purposely made the shadow below the eye on the left hand side a bit lighter, as the drawing didn't look as good when I colored it darker. Please let me know your opinion on that. Also I got too tired working on the face so please ignore the incomplete shading/value on the hair lol. Thank you for your time in advance :)

After watching the demo I attempted my own drawing so I can compare it. I would still very much appreciate any feedback :)

Hi @Jule Hollstein , great drawing! Your work has a great likeness to Nicolai and good shading that separates light from shadow areas. Below are a few suggestions of where the drawing can further be improved: - proportion: the eye on the left hand side should be smaller as it's away from us at three-quarter view. - shading: the shading transition can be softer on the eye bags, lips, and the cheek core shadows. - areas of hair in the shadow should be darker as it's in the same plane as the cheek that's in the shadow (refer to Proko's drawing) - area of the neck right below the head should be much darker as it's facing away from light and the head casts a shadow on it Hope that helps!

Hey Nicole, this is a really nice drawing, and a great exercise. In terms of value I think you did a pretty darn good job. The dark spot near the ear is the only part I'd say to re-design. Comparing your drawing to the ref, it feels like you're indicating facial hair but it doesn't quite feel successful yet. What I'd say is that your proportions and structure are a bit off. For example, the nose in your drawing is a bit too short. The eyes are off, the one on the right feels a bit too high. The mouth sphere is flat and too low as well. If you'd like I can do a tracing of your drawing, let me know! Good luck, and hope this helps

Thank you @Kristian Nee , I have been using tracing paper to cross check the proportion but am planning to switch to using photoshop instead, as the reference image doesn't always show up very clear under tracing paper. I did not draw out the facial hair as I didn't know how. I couldn't find any quick sketch that draws out facial hair when it's that short. If you have seen any quick sketch that draws out short facial hair like this image could you please kindly let me know? Thank you very much!

Hello everyone, I have been practicing quick sketches due to limited amount of time I get to practice drawing lately. Below is my sketch from today. It would really be greatly appreciated if anyone could provide critics and feedback on where to improve. Thank you in advance!

Hi @Geert-Jan Hendriks , those are really nice drawings. Below are my feedbacks for the two photos. First photo: Good proportion and nice facial details especially around the eyes. I feel like the shape of the nose and lip could be worked on a bit more to make them look more 3D. Second photo: Very nice detail especially around the eyes as well. The proportion of the head seems a bit off but I can't really tell exactly where. Maybe someone else can share their opinions on that. Both photos: Could work a bit more on shading. One tip I find useful is to keep on reminding ourselves that we are shading multiple "eggs/round" surfaces on the face. Also practice from photos that have stronger light/shadow contrast to begin with to help train our eyes on values. Hope that helps!

Hello, I did a head sketch to practice structure and value. I chose a photo that doesn't have a strong light and shadow to see if I could distinguish the subtle value differences. In the third photo area marked in red is where I think the darker area should be. It would be greatly appreciated to get critiques and feedback on whether I did the value correctly and anything else I can improve. Thank you in advance!
