Please let me know if there’s anything I could improve. I’d be grateful for your feedback.
I have a question how do I make my ellipses not look weird when my box is not a square? Do I need to change the 90 degree angle of the major axis? By how much?
Here are my attempts of level 1 and 2 post demo and critique. The hardest part of this project were the ellipses. I think I just need to keep practicing.
This was the hardest exercise for me by far. I would spend half a day drawing one tank, and I would still end up with some inconsistencies. However, I'm very happy with my progress, and I am more confident when I draw cylinders.
One I did from reference and one did without looking for reference it's still pretty challenging after Crqitue but I'll keep practicing till I get it!
My final set of vehicles for now. Compared to my first few, I would say these look much better. Focusing on the overal perspective of the underlying boxes before going into the cylinders really does help.
I did make some mistakes like the back wheel of the tractor being in the wrong angle, but at least I'm able to tell that there's a mistake. Hopefully I'll improve with more practice.
And yes, the tank was drawn upside down.
Thanks for emphasizing the angles again and again. I think I slowly begin to understand...
Is there a way to figure out how much to distort a cube/plane in space about how far away something is?
I tend to distort something too much, cause of learning about the 3-point perspective.
Good critique. Definitely needs a lot of technical practice! But I belief I am at least understanding the theory of it!
thx for the critique. The cars are just happy-accident, it is not my intention to draw with extreme convergence as it is usually easier to freehand it. I am trying to draw an almost parallel line for the initial box. Glad it looks good. The critique is useful as always and now I kind of know how the perspective of ellipse works. But the weird thing is that I keep drawing the ellipse as stan taught and the ellipse kind of reversely tells me my square in perspective is off. Is it reasonable to do such reverse engineering?
Can anyone help me out?
I though I was beginning to understand.
I do understand the major axis to be perpendicular to the minor axis.
Thing is when looking at the drawing video I lost track of how the minor axis
was derived.
Help using this drawing screen capture would be great thanks.
The minor axis is the axle. So if the wheel were able to spin freely on an axle and still remain in the same plane, what would that line (the axle) look like? In the case of the spare tire it is the X-axis of the vehicle. It passes through the center of the wheel.
Thank you so much for the critique!
I found it hilarious that you show how to pronounce your name, and he goes "I'll name you Pronounce"
Edit
Great critiques, thanks for sharing them.
Stan, at the end of the video you said you are moving on to intuitive Perspective.
I thought this project was considered intuitve perspective drawing of
Vehicles on Wheels. Intuitive being construction too, as there is no actual measuring (ruler) throughout.
So what type of perspective has the Vehicle on Wheels been, if you moving on to intuitive perspective next ?
I enjoyed this project, I understand more about how to approach
drawing Vehicles on wheels.
Is it good to practice drawing many squares and ellipses in perspective in hope of drawing a good one?
If the square in perspective is wrong to start, then a good ellipse isn't possible.
Thanks for highlighting how to achieve the correct angle of an ellipse during the critique video; The major axis being perpendicular to the minor axis.
What is a good method to draw a known good square in perspective
for comparison with intuitive attempts ?
Thanks again
@Stan Prokopenko Thanks for the critique - have you realized yet that the next lesson of this course will be N°100 and will there be cake?
It's likely, you'll only get cake if you can draw the cake and 100 candles as perfect ELLIPSES !
I have a question ive wondered for a while. Don’t know where to ask it. Its related to cylinders. Probably just confusing in a basic course. But maybe someone can help me where to find the answer anyways. Light and Cups, buckets . So we have a short cylinder/pipe . And we have light towards it and in to it. The cylinder is off course round. But the shape of light reflection is butt shaped?? I really don’t understand why it looks like that.
Hi @Stan, could we get a rough timeline of when the section on values will be ready? I've been using your drawing basics course for my students and it's been really helpful.
These post are so helpful .Not many good examples of this kind of structure around especially loving the wheel construction thank you Stan . Well done to the artist posting too😀😀
I'm super happy with the pipe's explanation. Talking about brain farts I've realized I knew that angle intersections thing while I was doing fingers in hands drawings, but this time I made it obviously wrong🫣. Did some sketches along watching the critique, can't wait for next lessons :)
Nice bottle and hex shape, what's it meant to be?
Me I've got a lot of practice in the pipeline.
Thanks for sharing your quick sketches.
