Decided NOT to be lazy after all and did a new project after watching the critique. I like my quick, gestural photo studies but with the final duck character I had some usual issues like making the head too big and I could've pulled in the chest a little bit. I usually do these edits in Photoshop if I want to create a final illustration but it would be nice to learn to not do these mistakes to begin with....

Please critique my drawing of a rat getting caught for stealing cheese.

I know I'm really late, but I used this to create a "non-virtuous" character in one of my paintings, and it took me a while to get through it.

I made a new try after Ive seen the critiques. This time with rhinos. I made studies and drew rhinos after reference first this time. And after that made explorations til I found my character. In the reference pictures the grown up looks tierd and grumpy. And i wanted to do grown up standing in the rain. But in the references the children seem so happy so i wanted to a child character as well. After i got my two characters i started to explore and test different poses till i found something I liked.

That's one grumpy looking bird, I love it :D. I think you've captured the moody expression very well. I like the 5th one with two birds a lot, as it looks like the birds are interacting with each other. I also like the last one with a sitting owl, that pose is experimenting and it's just fun. Reminds me of a kid who refuses to move when a parent tells him it's time to go.
I can relate to the frustrated feeling when you're simply out of ideas, but don't worry, it'll pass. These are fun, good work!

Attempt #3 : went back to attempt # 2 and tried to stay looser but retain good line quality. Taking a break and coming back to it, also seems to help. Hopefully heading in the right direction.

I feel like I rushed my stuff a tad too much when looking at what everyone did. At the same time I've no idea on how to make something loose and experimental and as detailed as some of these. I'll just do some more.
On a side note, it's funny how we've had a few of these critiques and I can instantly recognize Clowndev's work.

Heh, guess I should thank my crusty photo setup for this, it gives my drawings more character. You're doing good on the tapered strokes ,although I feel like you darken some lines too much and they start competing for attention with each other! I'd honestly advise you to draw with a lighter sharp-tipped pencil (or pen) for a while and see how you like it. But it's up to you! Have fun drawing Pedro :)

Decided to take another swing at this, and keeping with the spirit of fusing animals with fruit I bring you Cephalemon. Imagine cutting a lemon and finding an octopus inside. Feeling it was kind of bland I gave it a sombrero and a moustache because Cephalemón instantly assaulted my mind and sounded 100x funnier.
Again, circular lines are an absolute bane for me when drawing. I seem to only be able to do them quickly which will mess with the rest of the drawing if I don't nail the shape. My confidence takes a nose dive from there and I struggle to produce anything better after that. On to the next one.

I was the guinea pig (#16). I've been slowly pacing myself out of my comfort zone. I'm happy to hear my shapes/lines were good, will try being more exploratory with subject itself next!
When I thought character I thought props, accessories, etc., but would like to be able to express a character without those things like I saw others doing. I'll play more with it on my own.

It’s so hard to sketch with the pressure sensitivity of Apple Pencil and sketch loosely with my arm.
I mean, I had so much fun doing this! Thank you so much Stan. I’m starting to love drawing. The process.

Thanks a ton for looking over my mole, I will work on improving the line quality and contour in the future. I feel like the lines is my biggest issue right now.

Thank you Stan! Am learning from every critique in this video. Love it that you don't try to teach your son, but let him have fun in drawing. Great dad!

Thank you so much for the critique, Stan! 🦀 You noted that I worry too much about being precise, and that is so true. On my day job I've recieved similar feedback from my supervisors, more than once over the years, saying that they see a little perfectionist in me and reminding me that I don't have to do everything to perfection. It's funny because I never noticed this trait in myself before someone pointed it out. Recognizing it has made many things much less stressfull for me. Now when I'm drawing warm up mushrooms, it feels so relaxed and nice and smooth, but moving on to an exercise I lose some of that and feel... stiff(er). It's funny again, because I didn't make this connection before I watched this critique video. This is going to be incredibly helpful for me with future drawing, thank you!!
Also big thank you to all of the community here, I've loved looking at your work and getting inspiration, ideas and encouragement from you 💕.

re-did the assignment based on the feedback, tried going looser with the lines and focused on exaggerating the shapes. (I'm critique #1 btw)
interestingly a lot of the searching lines don't show up that much in these photos because I did them pretty lightly.
