I really like doves, but they're very limited in expressions so I made him look more expressive, made him give you guys a thumbs up! :)
Rachel Dawn Owens
He’s rad! Doves could be made even more expressive if you push the shapes more. Consider the body language of a relaxed vs an alert bird. Keep it as simple as you can and keep having fun with it!

the one on the left was before demo, the one on the right is after. And oh my gosh, there was a huge difference. I'm not used to doing portraits, but I did consider myself ready for level two, and I'm glad I did it. Did take awhile and almost gave up while doing the pre-demo sketch, but I would say I did enjoy the process a bit more. :)
@ason
These are the sketches I made, please do let me know if I did it with tapered strokes, as when I sketch I do construction, and then just erase and draw clean lines over them. By the way, it was REALLY difficult for me to resist using an eraser as that's what I'm used to when sketching as whilst I know the whole pint of sketching is that it's kinda meant to be dirty, going to have to work on that, but am glad to have knocked this out for today, definitely will come back to these, was fun to do them though! :)

I think you should work on making the lines darker.I can't see any tapered strokes for now because the lines are too light. I can relate with you about the fact that theyre supposed to be sketchy and I couldnt get that on my first try, so I reckon all you need is just some more practice. try to use those searching lines and try to do rough work and dont use an eraser because fluidity(that includes tapered strokes) comes in rough works and once you master that, most of your rough artwork starts to look pretty cool!

All three Level 1 drawings. I tried my best to keep it clean, but I feel like I’m still having problems with drawing smooth lines. Appreciate any feedback and criticism. Thank you in advance.

bit of foreshortening going on, nice!
@sosoph
Hi :). Trying to apply all the concepts was overwhelming, but I'm happy because it made me think a lot.

When I look at this I see like the beard turning into a cloud! Really nice! :)
@ason
The one on the left is the drawing I did before the demo, and the one on the right is one I did after the demo, my wrist is hurting after doing them both. :)
Melanie Scearce
Nice, your shapes are more thoughtfully designed in the second drawing. Great improvement! Try to put less emphasis on your wrist when you're drawing and move the articulation up to your elbow. It might take some practice but it'll save your wrists and keep you loose and gestural with your drawing.

I think I oversimplified the shading. Also I think my pencils are not very good :(
