Here’s my project. I finished it before watching either this video or the demo, as I wanted to go fresh. It was hard to come up with at first, since I’m more used to drawing humans (and cute girls :) ). I’ve always liked cats, so when the assignment said to create a character based on an animal, I immediately thought of one. Now, the problem was that cats are very popular, so I had to try not to be influenced by other cat designs out there. I tried several images, but what really helped in the end was studying a cat’s skeleton (since I’m learning to draw people, I’m more familiar with using the human skeleton for construction lines). I also wanted it to be a robot, because of a story I’m working on. In the end, I ended up being influenced by my love for anime and video games, and I created a robotic anime-style kitty inspired by Saint Seiya and Mega Man. I think it still needs a loooot of work before I can use her in my story, but it’s a start. I'm sharing both the process I followed before coming with a final product and some of the images I used as reference (most I found them on Pinterest. The skeleton ones are from Google and Wikipedia).

Wow. This looks awesome. You took this assignment to a whole new level. You designed a really cool character. I think your cat character could be brought even further if you wanted to open up the pose. Give them some action.

Hi! Sharing what I did. I hope I did the assignment this time, as I haven't watched the demo yet.

What I did before watching the demo. (the skull was done with a 6H pencil)

Trying again after the demo. It's really hard to re-train your brain into NOT detailing that much >_>

I'm still getting confused about how to simplify things. Sometimes I think I've gone too far, but then I watch the demo and realize I haven't gone far enough. I still need to wrap my head around it. Hopefully, the 2-week drawing challenge will help me with that. Here are the boots and the snail I drew before watching the demo. As for the boots, I fell into every single "trap" without even realizing it xD

On the left: my first attempt at this, which ended in failure (...and it strongly reminded me of the badly drawn Sasuke meme, so of course I had to draw that too, lol). I did it before watching the demo, using graphite pencils. On the right: my second attempt, made after watching the demo. This time I used Touch brand alcohol-based markers—because I wanted to get some practice with them!

My levels 1 and 2. Made before watching the demo. I guess I tried to follow the shape of the pear a little too much...

Hi. Which course should I start with? This one or Figure Drawing Fundamentals? Thanks.

I would say the drawing basics without a doubt. I found the figure drawing fundamentals slightly too hard for me as a beginner, I was too slow in the assignments, but the portrait course was great and rewarding, I would recommend the portrait course if you want to try out drawing and if you’re not sure if you want to learn seriously, it will give you confidence in a few days of practice. But the drawing basics course is the course I needed the most, it’s the course I would recommend the most by far. It’s an “everything” course on drawing, easy to understand, entertaining, with a lot of beginner friendly projects. It’s my perspective but the basics course is just a gem.

Hey. Of course with fundamentals course! It’s the foundation. All the best
