Let’s draw a monster truck! In this level 1 demo, I’ll show you how I would approach drawing wheels on vehicles.

Hey, I took some pictures of my son’s toy cars that I thought would be great for other people to use as reference and wanted to share.

Thanks for sharing! These are so cute!

Posting my after demo tractor drawing inspired by the Porsche 1958 model (if Im not mistaken). Still extremely struggling with keeping the pages clean (perhaps a bigger sketchbook would be an idea to consider), inserting the elipses into the boxes is also very difficult. Now I know that I need to practice these a lot more! Critiques are very welcome, my brain struggles to understand how to get around this.

This assignment was quite hard for me! I tried several times, but still I am struggling.

First image on the left is me attempting the demo while watching. The next image is my attempt after watching a demo using the reference. It took me 3 attempts to get a good idea how to complete this assignment. What worked well for me so far is 1. start with a rectangle box for the wheels. 2. separate the wheels with their own respective rectangular boxes, find ellipses, extend the ellipses out. 3. place body of car on top. I started with the wheels first because when I did the body I got confused with so many lines. It worked well for me so far, enough to complete 1 lol. My ellipses aren’t perfect and they are really hard to do lol. I hope this helps anyone struggling cause I’m struggling too lol. Any feedback welcome 🙏🏻

Here are some post-video attempts. Still messy but, I think they’re better.

Love the vehicle choices and shifting the perspective from the originals!

My attempts after watching the demo. The tractor obviously needs work, but surprisingly, the truck doesn't seem too bad.

Another try -my fault was to think that all parts should have the same horizon, so now I eyeballed the back wheel and the rest and finished the drawing with Procreate. Maybe it is not correct (the back wheel shouldn't be that big) but I'm glad I finished this assignment at last.

Monstertruck wheels…. I did not see how to approach the construction of those fat wheel ellipses. There is something I still don’t see and I don’t know what - but I think I solved a little bit of the puzzle.

If the wheels are not turned then the minor axis lies along the axle. Stan did say this and used it throughout the video but it was something that I did not get at first and it was a huge "aha" moment for me so I wanted to make that explicit. Maybe someone else can learn from my many perspective struggles.

Ladytruck III. I spent the most time constructing this one so I think it’s a little better.

I’m still struggling but it’s getting clearer. Some of my wheel ellipses still seem wonky but I’m closer to getting the wheels in the right place. I have to send a shout out to Rachel Dawn Owen’s for help with that!!! Thanks again, Rachel.
