LESSON NOTES

What's in Premium?

In this premium lesson, I critique a variety of student blob drawings. You'll see common mistakes and get specific, actionable advice on how to fix them. I focus heavily on edge control, showing you where to use sharp, firm, and soft edges to make your forms pop. We'll also cover how to handle cast shadows, avoid muddy values, and commit to your shadow shapes. Seeing these critiques will help you identify and improve the weaknesses in your own shading.

In this critique of your blob drawings, I'm looking closely at your edge control. When drawings feel flat or muddy, the problem is often a lack of edge variety. Using only soft edges makes forms look undefined. Learning to balance sharp and soft edges is what makes a simple shaded form feel convincingly three-dimensional and really pop off the page.

The second one has so much more contrast and form. This looks great!
