I just don't know what I'm doing wrong here. I went and bought new pencils specifically for shading and I just can't seem to get a decent spread of values for these exercises.
LESSON NOTES

What's in Premium?

Level 2 of the blob shading project is all about edges. We simplify the head into clear blobs, map clean shadow shapes, and design edge variety, soft, firm, and sharp, so the nose, lips, cheeks, and eyes feel solid. You will see how all the edge types work together, and why the edge all the way around a shape matters.

More blob heads. Really having to think a lot.

This is probably one of my favorite exercises so far. Blobs have made shading approachable for me.

Had to have another go at this after watching these demos. Thanks Stan.

Hi. It looks to me like your drawings are too small or the paper is very textured (or both). Maybe practice creating gradients from dark to light to get used to adjusting pressure as you shade? Hope that's helpful.

Also I think with shading, although it takes longer, maybe work bigger because then it's easier to get smoother transitions because you have more space to work with otherwise it's just sooo fiddly

Keep going! Materials/tools aren't too important. Try to find good, smooth paper, as I think you're using rough paper that's restricting your hand movement. Good luck!
