I was very inspired by this video! Tried to do a portrait of my own while keeping some of the techniques mentioned in mind.
LESSON NOTES

What's in Premium?

Cesar Santos focuses on edge work to transform a flat image into a three-dimensional form. Unattended edges fail to describe volume. You need to know exactly when to sharpen or soften a transition. Cesar explains how to analyze a portrait to place edges that help the illusion of form. You will learn to treat hair as a soft mass instead of drawing individual strands.

The lesson demonstrates how to use your peripheral vision to find natural focal points. You will see how to guide the viewer's eye by sharpening areas of interest and softening secondary forms. Cesar covers specific techniques for the nose, eyes, and cast shadows. He shows you how to balance values and edges to create an artistic interpretation rather than just copying a photo.

Ignoring your edges will make your portrait look flat. You need to control the transition between values to build a real sense of form. Using a mix of sharp and soft edges helps you guide the viewer's eye and stops the drawing from looking like a stiff cutout.

I'm sorry but the Hirohiko Araki's art at 08:40 does not look like Hirohiko Araki's artwork, this looks like AI (Midjourney or Chatgpt), because Araki is the author of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and his artwork has a very unike artstyle (very colorful and very distinctive). I posted 2 of Araki's artwork (the first 2) and the so-called Araki's artwork so you can see the difference. I might be wrong but it really seems like AI to me.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention! Yes, that is absolutely not Araki and it does appear to be AI generated. I'll talk to our editors about being more AI savvy (unfortunately a skill we need to have these days) and I'll work on getting this replaced and updated very soon!

Simple does not mean EASY. In mathematics, some of the most difficult problems are incredibly simple to express.

Your values are great; all you have to work on is measurements and proportions. Try out that exercise in shapes one more time.
