Would really appreciate some feedback on these. 3 things I’m really struggling with:
1. Skating feels jagged. How do I avoid having harsh corners?
2. My light and medium lines look really similar.
3. The trace the ruler lines are really thick and dark, not crisp like others I have seen. I’m losing a lot of definition, and then can’t tell how accurate I’m being.
I know practice will help with all of this, but any feedback that can help me correct some of these things while I practice would be amazing.
All of these were done with a 2B pencil.
Thanks!
I noticed when I get to certain angles while skating my arm/wrist is in an awkward position. I've learned by stopping my line early and turning the page I can get rid of some of these. Make sure you're using your whole arm to skate as well sometimes you can caught up doing small wrist motions that can make things look too angled.
I have similar issues, my lines used to be too dark, my problem was pressing to hard with pencil to paper so lightened up but now my lines are a tad too light , a work in progress, hth. Try lightening up your press
Very nice job! I love your tapered lines in the page skating. As you do more and more of these you'll get really great at control. For example on the exercise where you draw over a straight several times, you have a lot of feathering on the right point. This happens to me a lot because I ghost and then as I'm pulling the actual stroke I correct based on vision instead of trusting the muscle movement. If you take stan's latest video on the habits while ghosting, you're going to get even better!
I have been doing pages of lines for several days. They do seem to be getting easier to draw, but if is still a struggle. Some of the lines are very light I hope you can see them.
Your lines look a lot like mine! Your light medium and dark lines though have a much clearer separation. I like how you did that reference in the top left for the tones. I might steal that idea. No feedback, sorry, I’m struggling with this all myself, just wanted to send some encouragement, and say thanks for sharing :)
