Here are my attempts of the level 1 and 2 drawings (plus some extras) after watching the demos. I think the more I drew the more I became aware that the exercise was just about line quality so I stopped worrying too much about proportions. I did the shoes quite early and you can see how messy the line quality is compared to the later drawings. That being said I did find the shoes especially hard in any case.
Did my best. Would be grateful for any corrections. The skeleton bit was the most difficult for me but I did my best
Had fun simplifying a fuzzy camel into shapes! Didn't have enough space to draw the feet due to poor planning :(
camel before seeing demo. Couldn’t help myself with the retro Joe Camel reference. :)
Just got done with level 2. I learned a lot and I'm looking for constructive feedback!
My second level 2 CSI assignment done before watching the demo. I think both this and the skull were easier than the level 1 boots! :P
I feel like after doing 6 of these I'm finally starting to grasp the concept lol. I've always struggled with line work so this has been good. I'll have to keep doing these >:(
Went too detailed on the skeleton... same trap I fell into with the boots, but overall like I was honing on the developing of the CSI lines
Had a crack at both of these.
Key takeaways.
- I've always struggled with proportioning my drawings. By confining them to a box, I see the relationship between shapes more clearly and can focus on outlining them more effectively.
- I've found adding plumb lines helps me make sure various parts are in the right position.
- Drawing the silhouette before building the forms is a game-changer.
- Drawing with a thick graphite pencil forces me to be more gestural and stops me from getting as tentative when trying to draw C and S's
Loving the course so far!
Hi! So…. I’m having a bit of a motivation issue, I think. I’m not sure if it’s the way I’m holding the pencil or something, but I just can’t draw the curves well. In addition, my straights are really, really wobbly. I can’t get the snail to look good without making small strokes. Is there anything I can do or practice to get better? I feel like the snail is a little hard for me.
I've only just got back to drawing after a few months off. I've always struggled with line quality, but mine are particularly bad now. It's definitely more muscle memory and trying to draw from your shoulder rather than wrist.
Try and do some warm up drills before jumping into a lesson. I found the_art_coach helpful on IG
I've also got a super fat graphite stick that I use, that forces you to be less precise and more gestural.
You probably need more practice. When you say your lines are wobbly, try to train your hand and build muscle memory. I alsothink the small is difficult to grasp.
Here's my attempts at three of the images, feel good about the result. However I do feel like I might have overworked them for what the assignment was, especially the boots.
Here are my two attempts of the Skull and the Camel. The Camel was harder for me than the skull, but at the second try (the second image, which has a 10 Rd.1 in it) I was able to catch well the movement and proportions (especially). If anyone is interested, I would appreciate feedback :)

I can definitely see what you mean with your second camel drawing, and the skull drawing. You have a good eye! You made great CSI choices in your camel drawings; I think that your lines in the skull drawing could be simplified just a bit more. There's a lot of little details in there that you observed well, but for the point of this assignment, could be translated into a C or S curve, or a straight line.
My attempt: the camel. Trying to focus on keeping my lines confident
Before watching the demo, did the camel first then the skull. I'm honestly quite happy. With the camel I still cheated a bit by changing proportions digitally after the fact, with the skull I tried to keep myself honest (though undoing is still a bad habit, maybe? is it a bad habit if it allows me to redo a line I mess up? hmm).
Surprised myself with the ability to communicate such a complex subject matter if I actually not rush things, which I think I usually really do. Happy with the results.
The skull was harder than expected mostly because some of the large sweeping lines in the hat, some parts were easier to do in one swooping motion than to break it up. Definitely worth more practice also.
I am impressed. very clean and readable. Proportions are good!
