@justjen
I attempted 5 minutes twice. I did not finish the first attempt and #2, in my opinion, looks a little better. I used blue Prismacolor col-erase pencil.

In this unnarrated demo, I shade a sphere using a graphite pencil, with a 5 minute time limit.

This was mildly stressful to watch with the countdown overlay. Had a little chuckle at the end and it was very informative, thanks. I think I'll give the 10 and 5min challenges a try today.

I managed to finish the shading the sphere in 10 min but trying to do in 5min was very hard. It went over a little bit.

Thanks for Demo 3 1. The Darks I think were shaded with a 6B up to 4 mins. 2. Then the Lights were 4B 3. Back to 6B after the Kneaded Eraser Highlight, to touch up the Darks at the end. The pencil tip helped spot the pencil changes, thanks. :) I'm not sure about when a line around the outer circumference would be considered an outline taking away from the shading effect. Any advice would be great.

If any more projects and demos with shading are planned, it would be helpful to know what pencil hardness is used in each step of the drawing process.

Good idea. I can help a bit for this video. shadows were made with 6b and lights with 4b. Not sure with the marks in the beginning but I guess HB or 2b.
