I got a little too precious with the boots once I tried to simplify the laces.
LESSON NOTES

This exercise will help you avoid chicken scratch. Instead of uncertain pecking at the paper. We're going to draw each line with a focused and intentional path. Remember to draw from your shoulder, elbow and wrist. Avoid the fingers. When I tell you guys to simplify your lines, I'm usually referring to three types of lines, two curves and one straight.

ASSIGNMENTS

Download the photo reference images and try to simplify them using CSI lines. Draw each line with a focused and intentional path.

Your pace should be quick, but not rushed.

For this exercise, we will just consider the individual segments of the contour of a shape.

Same instructions for level one and two. Just a difference in difficulty of reference. The level two photos have more fun little tidbits to tempt you to get into the details, but fight the urge and simplify.

Also, no shading in these please. This is not meant to be a portfolio piece.

C = C Curves
S = S Curves
I = Straights

Would greatly be thankful for any advice on my drawing. I draw at work on my lunch break. I feel like before I put a line down. I need to know rather it be a straight , c curve or s curve line. Thanks in advance.

I will redo and make the sketch with more clean line.

I finished both levels, and most of them I tried again after watching the demos. I definitely feel I'm inconsistent with my lines, I'm also open to more critique.
Karthik Kaipa
Tried to do snail again after watching the demo but on CSP (first time doing anything digital). It's so much different from using paper and pencil. I know it's the muscle mind muscle control that gets better using either media but it's so much harder to control the pen on a screen. I think I'm going to keep attempting all projects going forward using both media so I get more practice on both. Not happy with this one on a digital canvas though. Will attempt boot next

Snail - before watching demo. Tips for making lines more confident?
Martha Muniz
Lovely progress and work overall! It looks like your lines are pretty solid already, but for confidence, there's several videos up ahead that will focus more on this subject. For now, a tip I recommend is to practice 'ghosting' lines, so that means going over the page with your pencil slightly hovering, mimicking the line you are about to put down a few times. That helps practice and get the rhythm for the line, so once you actually put pencil to paper, you have a stronger sense of confidence in that stroke. Hope this helps :)

Snail before watching the demo. Any feedback would be appreciated.

GREAT use of CSI. I can really see the thought behind each line. What is your process for making your lines? Are you making them in one stroke or building them up with smaller strokes?

I really enjoy drawing with the red Col Erase pencils like Stan had mentioned in an earlier clip. I feel a bit more free or loose with my drawings.

First lv2 attempt before demo
@mithridatium
Did my best with the snail. Found the boots impossible to simplify, pushing myself not to be too hard on myself for not knowing how to deal with the proportions and angles of the boots altogether. Trying to keep positive
Karthik Kaipa
Unconsciously kept trying to use my fingers instead of my wrist, elbow and shoulder. I can't not rest my elbow on the desk coz that's just how I've always written my whole life. Also noticing that if I hold the pencil with three fingers, I lose precision but can get better pressure control and if I use four fingers (the grip I use to write), I can get precise but I lose pressure control. Patience and repetition I guess. I'll attempt this assignment a few times while I watch the videos in this section

This is before watching the demonstration. Any feedback back would be appreciated ☺️

My boots! The two glaring issues I see are that I didn’t have enough room on the page for the full boots and I got lost in the details of the laces I think. Feedback is always appreciated!
@oliveoil
I tried to do level 2 before watching the demo. I think I did way worse than level 1.
@starlearning
The snail was the only one that i tried that i finished, the others one i couldn't. I will probably find other references so my brain does not give up half way.

Couldn’t get the face to have the slight tilt
Patrick Bosworth
Really nice job here! I think your overall proportions, and silhouette are pretty close and you used fairly simplified CSI lines, looking good! It does look like your lines are a bit hesitant. They get a bit harry where you've gone over the line a few times to construct it rather than drawing them fluidly from the shoulder. Take a look at these videos on line quality, and try to draw your CSI lines with longer more deliberate stroke to begin with. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work! https://www.proko.com/course-lesson/6-habits-for-good-line-quality https://www.proko.com/course-lesson/how-to-draw-confident-lines-the-tapered-stroke

Level 1 before and after watching the demo.
@rachelbeeton
Second attempt snail is much improved - congrats!

Level 2. I struggled a lot with the camel's face..
Benjamin Gustafsson
Level 1 done. Now off to Level 2. Feel free to critique, I want to master line work!
@rachelbeeton
I’m more of a beginner than you are so I can offer no critique but just wanted to say that I really like these drawings
