Assignment

It's time to get your hands dirty! Your homework is to draw hand quick-sketches. Focus on the three fleshy masses I talked about today. Your goal is to create drawings with good gesture and simple 3D form. Make sure you use a good balance of straights and curves. Identify the superficial bony areas and check to make sure your muscle forms attach to the right spots on the bones. Be sure to post your drawings in the Anatomy discussions tab, so that you can get feedback and possibly included in the critique video.

I know this wasn't exactly the assignment but I wanted to get the underlying structure of the muscles and where they sit into my head. Feedback and critiques are welcome and appreciated!

What you did right is describe the forms of the hand and fingers as 3 dimensional forms. I would say you lost the gesture of the hand in drawing 4, but over all, you approached this The right way by using simple shapes. As you move forward you can start refining the details a little more with perspective in mind :)

These are my hands so far, can someone critique them please? I don't really know how to do shading, so I struggle with that. There's also a lot of proportion issues I think, but hopefully those will go away as I practice more

Hey Jack, nice job on these hands, the fist one is pretty good. Make sure you are not loosing the 3 D shape of the hand and fingers. Think of them as boxes and other simple shapes. That will also help in your rendering them in value. Also, don't be too concerned with over emphasizing the bumps on the contour, keep it simple. I did a quick sketch that I hope helps :)

Beginning of my 100 hands challenge. The first 2 pictures i drew before watching the video course so i can compare my results.i draw with 2 colors. First the underlaying structure lige in the bone assingnement and than the anatomical masses.

Hey Anna, Drawing a hundred hands is a good exercise, I hope you make it. What I'm noticing about your drawings is the lack of structure. I can see your thinking about it, but it isn't making it into your drawings. I did a quick sketch of your drawing in the 4th image. I used my own hand, and not the one Stan is using, but its pretty much the same thing. You need to think about each form as having planes: front, side and top/ bottom. This will help with your shading and give your drawings a real 3 dimensional feeling. I hope this helps :)

Hi, @Jesper Axelsson and everyone! Drawing hands are hard and I cannot draw hand without reference so here it is! By the way, in the drawing 4.2 , I try to show my processes - gesture and proportion, shadow mapping and two values but I still feel that my drawings is still not beautiful as it suppose to be. Hope my practices are a right way and get me improve at drawing. However, I am open for different opinions.

Hi again, nice studies! Forearms: I think the origins and insertions look more accurate this time👍. But the previous drawing had more accurate proportion of the whole arm. If you want to continue studying the forearm I would consider these things: -Study the ridge group. - Make sure to start with a lay-in, where you focus on gesture and proportion. Your drawing look quite different from the Forearm-Assignment-2 image. -Refer to the 3D-model to check how close you are, and make corrections if needed. -Make drawing from imagination a habit. It's a great way to test & deepen your knowledge. I like following this routine: 1. Draw from imagination 2. Check were I'm off, with reference. Studying the part I got wrong. 3. Draw again from imagination, spinning the object into a different position. Hope this helps :)

2023/1/2. Good morning everybody. Here's an anatomical study of the hand again. "It's important to apply structural studies with actual studies like this one, back and forth until we have a solid understanding of the figure" (from "The Anatomy of Style" by @Patrick Jones).
