Did first pair blind without looking at demo. Did second pair after looking at demo. Felt buoyed that Stan also did not appear to enjoy the laces.
I hate art less now.
1st attempt on the left, 2nd attempt on the right. Felt like a huge jump in progress between these two attempts! Biggest things for me was using construction lines and simplifying more than I thought it would, focusing on drawing the heart of the image over exactness, and being mindful not to draw the details bigger. Thanks Stan!
Having the teacher drawings to help with reference sure was useful. The boots even look 3D now when compared to my 1st try; tho the snail didn't change much for the 2nd attempt
2nd attempt on the left, 1st attempt on the right. Felt like the proportions were better, and I focused more on construction and faster, confident lines over trying to be slower and more accurate
Second attempt at the snail after watching the demo video. I tried to let go of my anxiety and try to draw lines more confidently and faster without paying too much attention to proportion. This one was done in about 10 minutes.
My first attempt before watching the demonstration for the boots. I think I couldn't make up my mind very well on which detail I should leave out.
I think my lines are still shaky, and the shape might have been more complicated than CSI. I wasn't sure if I applied the CSI concept correctly, lol. Critiques are welcome. I'm going to watch the demonstration and will try drawing it again.
Tried to use active recall on the left one, the other one was through examination. Seems like ghosting the line for me for longer lines works 50/50 for me. I think it's because I am not actively thinking about the lines as I give them form at times. Kinda curious if anyone else has had a similar problem in the past.

It can be an adjustment to start actively thinking and being purposeful when laying down strokes, but it will get easier as you do it more. Remember to be intentional and draw what you're seeing, not what you think you see :) Nice observations of your process and what might/might not work for you. Keep it up!
Iโll stop here and call it Schiele ๐๐

Snail done! Struggled with making my lines painterly and not happy with how it looks like a coloring book page but moving on! โบ๏ธ
Anyone got tips I literally canโt get the structure or see the shoe correctly
These were both after the demo but Iโm honestly struggling. The snail one I was able to complete but, the boots just had me so frustrated any tips?

Great work on completing the snail, and taking a shot at the boots! I saw in your other comment you said you were having trouble with the structure and getting the form down. When you're drawing, are you looking more at your paper, or at the subject?
It can feel weird to not be looking at the paper, but exercising your observation muscles will make it much easier to accurately draw what you're seeing. By keeping your eyes moving between your reference and your drawing, it trains your brain to not fill in the blanks and instead draw what you see.
Take your time to look, and don't forget about 'ghosting' your pencil strokes to understand where you want to put a line down. It will get easier with practice. I think the next videos in this course on lines and building line confidence will help you as you continue! Keep it up!
Post critique, 3rd effort, trying to make more deliberate confident lines. Takes a lot of patience to make sure you're deciding in advance C S or I and then "ghost it" before you commit.
My boots and snail before the demo.
Boots were challenging, especially the laces.. I ended up simply adding floating curves for the visual "emotion" it provides
For the snail I added texture for the fun of it :P
This is a big improvement for me, I really enjoyed the process of working on these exercices :D
