As you develop your eyes to judge proportions, you won't need to measure as much. In this bonus measuring demo, I’m going to rely a little less on the measuring and more on just trusting my eyeballs.

Question here. So when eyeballing the proportions, would it be appropriate to start with something like the Loomis Method of drawing the head? I suppose it would be Drawer's preference, but I'm wondering if there's any specific reason to use it or not.

I have tried 3 portraits with just eyeballing and then double checking few proportions and I am a bit impressed by myself. Below is my most recent try. Proportions are noticebly worse than when following the previous methods, but they are close enough and getting better every portrait. I am surprised I can get this in about 15 minutes compared to ~1h of the previous lesson. I think at this rate I will be able to improve them quickly.

All the features were pretty much spot on but the face was too big compared to the head. Or head was too small and shoulda been bigger. Too tunnel visioned to have noticed I guess.

I drew along with Stan and I'm really stoked with the result! I don't think I'd get nearly as good of a result simplifying the shapes on my own

I checked my work on procreate and looks like biggest error was the chin width being too narrow; the head width was a bit off which I believe contributed to that mistake. I corrected both of those issues and moved the ear back a bit to the correct location.

Hi guys, I tried to eye ball proportions and take more of a hybrid approach for this portrait of Harrison Ford. I got carried away and decided to render the whole thing. Just wanted to share. Having lots of fun with the class

This was much more fun than measuring - draw along with Stand - mine looks buffier than the reference but may be it is 'Bane' Murphy haha

I decided to draw this one before watching Stan's video. So, I only used measurements for the "box" containing the head. After watching the video, I know I shouldn't have... I used the pencil to judge a few angles (should have or not?) and then I eyeballed everything else. I had an hard time placing the nose and in fact it's off, and consequently the mouth. I had to go over my drawing with a softer pencil to get a good picture and to transfer it to Procreate.

Bruh, you blew my minnnnnnnnd when you simply eyeballed the length and width of the face and all the length of lines.....

Chin is too low and I used measurement between the bottom of the nose and the chin to position the mouth. So the mouth and everything below is too low. At least, from the nose up it's not too bad. If I shift the drawing up to match the position of the chin, the bottom is also not too bad. So my biggest mistake is the position of the chin in the early stage of drawing the "enveloppe".

Didn't eyeball this one too much. Just used a few measurements. My lines are a bit scratchy and I think I made the head a bit too narrow but I like it.

Yeah, the heads a little narrow, but you got all the important angles right and achieved a pretty good likeness.

First attempt, very grateful to acquire this wonderful course, I had a lot of fun doing this assignment, it took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes, everything was done without measurements, just eyeballing, apart from I feel that I took the photo at a strange angle (I have problems taking photos of drawings)

This is an attempt to observe proportions only using my eyes (which is how I get used to do). I find I tend to draw things wider when eyeballing. It's good to do this practice after last assignment. I feel I can get a more efficient and accurate proportion measurement by adjusting the ratio using both methods. Thank you Stan!

I really like how you cunstruct the head and shapes. Looks so simple and good at the same time.

Nice! I can tell it's Cillian Murphy right away without looking at reference for your drawing.

Drawing along with Stan and checking the proportions in Procreate. I knew there were things off and I didn’t/don’t like the drawing, but I’m happy to know this new trick now! (I set the opacity on the original photo on 75%)
