My attempt to find the flow and stick to basic shapes.
LESSON NOTES

What's in Premium?

In the premium lesson, Aaron Blaise shows how to break down complex animal anatomy into simple shapes and forms. You'll learn how to start with basic shapes—circles, squares, tubes—to construct the head, neck, shoulders, body, and hips of animals. Aaron demonstrates this technique by drawing a dog and a bear, emphasizing the importance of finding the rhythm and flow through the body. He explains how to build all the parts onto that line of action, simplifying legs into tubes and using concepts like the "chicken leg" for back legs. You'll see how to move and pose these simple shapes to create dynamic gestures and how to adapt proportions for different animals. This lesson prepares you for future topics like rotating shapes in 3D space.

I really enjoyed this lesson :)
@notapirate
I had fun doing this, but it definitely was challenging for me to do, and honestly, im not too happy about the wolf because I kinda was trying to get the proportions right, but I feel that I have a lot more to improve overall, but Im not going to be hard on myself because SURPRISE its my frist drawing of a wolf, so any tips would be much appreciated. The bear, I'm really happy about it. I still can improve, but for the first time, definitely not bad. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

The thing is how you can know till where you can move it to it to feel natural, does it has a circle to monitor movements? Like you can move in that space but if you go out that circle it becomes bad.

That was a blast to watch. I am know it is expected for me to struggle with shapes and rhythm since I just picked up a pencil but it is still somewhat demoralizing seeing a master put lines like that while struggling to produce something similar to it. This course has giving me a new found appreciation for the quick gesture drawings. Before, it look like something "easy" since it was so quick and it was all basic shapes. But the more I practiced and study - the more I realize those drawings are the product of years and years of experience. So - if you're like me and still struggling with confidence, just keep at it. At least that's what I keep telling myself :)

Decided to try out this technique. This was very hard for me to do, because I was struggling with the proportions. For some reason I find it mapping it out or laying it out easier than using shapes....but I tried my best.

Thank you for this excellent breakdown! I did these sketches super quickly just to try out Aaron's method, didn't measure any angles or proportions, just followed the rhythm from the head to the hips like in the demos, and they turned out great! So simple and effective.

I love Aaron Blaise. His courses on his site are excellent. Traditional and Digital classes. Doing a watercolour with him. Super fun. And this was super helpful. Why simple shapes are important.

I purchased the Brother Bear DVD the other day. Okay, 21 years late ( longer for drawing : ) to the show but it's a great emotional animation with amazing music and bonus features ! It wasn't so good for Salmon though ! BBC in the UK did a wonderful 3 part wildlife documentary: Grizzly Bear Cubs and Me. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0bw55dz
