As you develop your eyes to judge proportions, you won't need to measure as much. In this bonus measuring demo, I’m going to rely a little less on the measuring and more on just trusting my eyeballs.

I’m pretty happy with this. Idk that I’m better at one method vs the other but I did notice I had a lot more fun when I wasn’t constantly measuring. Also the eye makeup sooo threw me off, I had to shade in the one eye because my brain couldn’t make sense of what I was looking at

This looks really good! The tapered marks and variable lineweights are lovely. The way you handled the makeup is cool. You could adjust the construction on this eye a little bit. Maybe it’s because you redrew it already. I think its lost some of its structure. Flattened out. Great stuff. Keep it up 👍

Eyeballed my way through these portraits. I think I am more suitable with eyeballing than to measure each element as it takes more time and is quite frustrating if certain parts doesn't align, wereas when guessing I can almost instantly fix it if it doesn't feel right. The only thing I struggled a bit was to draw the features (eyes, nose, mouth..). In the second one, the eyes look kinda miss balanced, I think I need more practice.

@deepanshu12
tried with less measurements and more eyeballing but proportions are off thought of shading just for fun, any suggestions will be much appreciated

i gave eye balling a try

I know proko draws his faces with sttaight lines but I found it was much easier for me to use curves. Still need lots of practice.

Started off strong with the rough sketch, then it seemed like something's off... And completely blew it coloring in the hair. I guess there's a reason Proko says not to shade yet...

Did another one. Really struggling to get a likeness. I feel like the eyes and the mouth are the most important for that, and incidentally they are the things I struggle with most.

This is great!

Well, there goes my drawing, I found it very constructive to follow the video step by step and imitate it. I think I have learned a lot from the quality of the strokes. It has been a great challenge for me to execute the drawing!

just eyeballing was "easier" just because putting down shapes was faster. Still off - I think it's fine tho? I can't expect to be as good as this I want to be given that I just started doing this type of drawing. I will probably fill this sketch book with this type of portrait drawings since this project was fun.
Aaron Smith
This was fun, even though it turned out S#*t! lol. Eyes and nose not too bad. The rest is way off!

Did another practice. Added a bit of detail on the hair for some fun. :)

Here is my attempt, that's the one I struggle the most with. I feel like it's harder for me right now to eyeball proportions.
Tommy Pinedo
Nice attempt. Yeah eyeballing proportions is tough. It takes me about 2 hours or so to complete something I am feeling alright with. I think its just putting the miles in and see what works for you when you lay it out, and measure proportions. Happy drawing! :)

Here is my attempt for this portrait of Cillian Murphy. This was like a Master Study to me because I was studying how Stan does his line weight like around the eyes, nose and lips. This drawing took me a bit over 2 hours and I only looked at his demo when I felt stuck on lineweight only. I did the portrait by eyeballing it and not looking at Stan demo. I compared it with the actual photo and I was close but so far I am happy about it. I will continue to do more!

I don't feel great about this but I find that it is really hard to eyeball proportion without looking at shadows. This breaks the idea that we should be looking out for better shapes like in the last few lessons and isn't great for drawing the same subject later.

I really like this

This was very helpful thank you so much for this. Also, where can I get a Proko sketchbook that Stan uses? :D

Eyeballing proportions—jaw length and width were slightly off at the lay-in stage. Used wider strokes for soft edges and left some areas of the features without edges.
Xana Mendonca
It took me more than 2 hours to do this and I had to correct the proportions so many times :/ and it still is off on the right side of the face.

this is really good

My attempt at drawing this portrait while watching Stan draw his. Proportions were a little off on length and width but not to bad. My facial features definitely need to be practiced and improved. Overall happy with my version.
