I wish there were more examples for structure. I feel like I'm being thrown into the deep end for this one.

This is a lot more difficult than it looks... some more practice is needed.

I have practiced some animal structure!!! I can see you guys doing so well. Feel free to give me some feedback:)

My first attempts at this assignment! It took a while for me to figure out what shapes to use. I am going to do more practice just drawing shapes in perspective, since I still feel that’s a struggle itself sometimes. Feel free to leave a comment with any critiques:)

My attempts with this exercise. Struggled a bit with a tendency to overcomplicate the forms and lose sight of what the actual purpose of this lesson was, if I was to do more of theses I'd probably try to capture more of the larger underlying basic 3D shapes.

forgot to post these together. Any critique is welcome (:

Just getting started in my art journey, so I don't have any critique to give but I just wanted to say that these are wonderful

this one was so hard. I think I am having a hard time simplifying the shapes and the perspective.

If you're struggling with the overall perspective you could try starting your draw with a simple 3D cube to set the boundaries of the animal and setting the mail vanishing points. Check for Kim Jung Gi box drawings

My drawing maybe not simplify :(. Here is my work.

It seriously looks awesome. Despite being all 3D and blocky, your animals feel alive and full of gesture. Really good balance there.

Here is my second take on structure basics on animals.
Gesture wise I think I did a good job. At some points I felt like not adding enough structure elements/I didn't know where to add more complexity/less.

Hi, everyone! These are my first two structure studies. Not sure if I'm doing it correctly? I'd appreciate some feedback. I struggle with figuring out if a certain part should be a box or another shape (like with the top part of the deer's torso connected to the front leg) and also "seeing" through the fur like with the abdomen in the owl. Any tips? Thanks!

I would probably simplify the owl into just a cylinder for the body and a cube for the head.

Hi everyone! Really struggling with this twisted torso pose….trying to imagine the muscular structure of the model. I don’t want to render it and find that something fundamental is wrong 😑 I know something is off but I just can’t tell what it is! Advice very welcome 🙏

im still learning but I can say for the man's pec muscle could be less flat to his chest maybe just a bit puffing out and maybe even half of his pec showing (side angle) and it looks like his right leg is facing more right then his hip if that makes but so far that is rather amazing!!! i hope this helps!

Hey there, unsure if I have simplified these TOO much especially in the face areas. any tips appreciated!

I don't think you simplified too much. The deer looks great and I'd say whatever mindset you had while drawing that one is probably your best bet to understanding how to manipulate structure.
I do suggest to try to tier your lines though. Keep your cross contours lighter and your contour lines thicker. Any important lines like gestural lines (even if their "arbitrary") or cross contour could stay thick as well. Kind of like your deer drawing. This just helps with readability for both you and others.

Last structure studies before moving on to the next lesson.

Should I move on to landmarks and mannequinization now? Or should I work on landmarks more?

Hey Logan, If you still want some help with this part. My biggest recommendation for you is that you need more shapes. Right now it looks more so as if you are drawing the outline of the animals rather than breaking them down. I completely understand wanting to fit parts of the body together, especially like the torso into a bean shape but the bean is not the goal of this lesson.
The main focus is to stare at the animal for a minute then try to fit shapes over the top of the image. A big tip is print out the image, get a red marker and draw over it. See how you would turn each section into smaller shapes. After you draw on the image directly you will get a better idea of what is different between the image and your drawings on your book.
I have also added a photo that will hopefully help you see how you should imagine the animal in shapes. Just think of it as more of a puzzle than an animal.
TLDR - Break the image down into more shapes

Now that I look at it, nevermind.

Anything I must improve on?

Try drawing through the form as if you can see through the structure. The contour lines facing you would be a little bit darker than the ones on the non-visible side.

Tejas Keswani

Maybe if you practiced with a pose much three dimensionality to it, it would be a better exercise
Like this side view doesn't actually account perspective to your practice than it should
Just a thought.

More animals in shapes. I decided to give myself a goal and move on once I get there. I am on 6 out of 20 Animals.

I like your drawings, I'm gonna try the "goal" idea too! (genius)!

Only done about 9 of these studies. Ill prob's add it to this weeks routine, but Im not even sure how to structure these classes -__-: Anyways, I should've focused a bit more on this subject, as I often have issues with making structure.
