This course really is excellent! As a beginner, I’m so amazed at how these seemingly simple technique progressions have taught me not just to get a feel for the figure quickly, but to direct my hand where I want it to go. I’m very excited about what’s ahead.

After finishing the video examples, I moved onto other references. I think at times I have a little trouble with joints and using them effectively to show the planes of certain points, ie the knee and elbow. I also find the top shoulder hard to understand, whether its a block shape or more of a curve.
Overall I think I'll be moving on from Mannequinization lessons, I still think at times my line quality is a little messy, but its just something I have to work on.

These are amazing buddy! Although , I think exaggerating the poses on a few of these could really help.

maybe too much contour? I really struggle with line quality. Never sure how to vary to add dimension and interest

Hey @Denat. Adding tones and shadows would really make your drawing pop and add dimension to it. The drawing has some good line work, however, what could really give it more character is varying your line weight. For example a lighter line weight around the abdominal area - also areas where the human body retains fat.

my first attempt at manaqiunization. Gonna keep following along and getting better. But I wanted to share my first mannequin. It ain’t much but it’s honest work.

Did a couple more . A lot of the criticism was helpful. I’m going back to the bean and robo bean as well as practicing more gesture for a couple more weeks. But I’ll still attempt the mannequin for fun until I get a better grip on the other fundamentals.

Good first try. My first tries were a disaster (many years ago). The only feedback I have is that your proportions are a bit off. I'm thinking the model is Channon Pose 007. Also, look at the abdominal shapes. For most female's the abdomen is simplified into two main masses -- kind of like an apple shape on the lower belly, with the belly button at the top of that shape. The upper abdomen overlaps the ribcage. It does not fit inside the arch of the ribcage. Finally, your drawing "grows" as it flows down to the feet. I'll give this drawing a try later on today and post my results. Hopefully, my draftsmanship is good enough to illustrate what I'm talking about.

@Low Horvath Looking forward to seeing more work. I think its a good start.
I think the core pose is working, its just a few of the components around it that need a little work.
I'd say that the hips could have been softened a little, and the arms look foreshortened at parts, but the only thing telling me that is the shorter length on the left arm. In those cases and some of the thighs, 1-2 cross contour lines would have helped sell what direction, either towards or away from the camera.
The abdominal area has a strange unbalanced look that feels off like it thins out and widens at parts that feel off.

Did my normal, screen cap the references and figure out the forms on my own, then go back and compare to the video using red lines to show the major differences.
Overall I think my line quality still needs some work, a few of the mannequins had maybe too many cross lines, but boy am I feeling good about my work overall.
I'll come back later this week to post the last references from the video.

Hello, @Dre Torres looking at your work I see a few things.
A. the overall gesture could use some work, specifically capturing the sort of unbalanced lurch forward in the image. With yours, he's a little more upright. His right leg also should be sticking out more as well.
B. I'm not seeing you capture some of the shapes, specifically with the chest, ribs, and hip area, that seem underdeveloped. From this angle, I feel like I should see more definition of the side lat, as well as the figure's hips, and rib cage. Instead, I see more boxy forms more like in the last lesson.
C. Some additional cross lines could give some of the forms a more defined and 3-d look, you do it a little in the right leg and left arm but this could be used elsewhere as well.
Thanks for posting!

Critique is welcome.

Back view examples and 1st image is mannequins from imagination, which still has issues in the arms and connection of legs to hips, but I enjoyed the process.

Hello there people! I hope you're having a great day.
This are some daily studies for the mannequin lesson. I see now that the connection between torso and pelvis is not quit right so I'll be more carefull.
Any feedback is appreciated!

Hi,
Since I am spend the last year with gesture drawing to start a figure drawing, it is difficult for me to start with geometric shapes like in this videos. In this assignment I start with gesture for each body part and add than the form. gesture has burned into my mind :-) Hope this is no problem :-) Which advice can you give me? Thanks for any feedback :-) George

Hey George, I think you may benefit from doing "draw overs" . Watch the 2 longer videos and pause before Stan starts drawing. Go through the process he describes in the First video in this section. Then do a comparison with his results and yours. Draw over your attempt in a different color copying the differences that you see from Stan's attempt. Ask yourself why he did it that way and analyze even small differences. As he describes it does not have to be exact . For me this is process really helping me see things a differently.
I hope Hope this helps.

These are great but I feel like there are too many cross contour lines. But the structure is really good. Great job!

I like your drawings most. Your work is really helpful. I think I should do like you. Movement, boxes and after that mannequins. This could be the way I learn best.
Thank you for showing us. <3

Although my goal is to paint with oil paints from portraits to faces to figures and especially landscapes,(hence why I'm doing both courses from drawabox*free ver.* and this one is a bit draining but I can endure it surprisingly.) I tried to draw this figures from imagination and of course it sucks buuut I had fun with it. I'm one of those people who'd need assurance of one's own drawing skills before they paint with full leisure I know it's really bad as they usually say to paint everyday& experiment w colors but I still want to draw freehand cool sketches from imagination or draw interesting landscapes also from imagination in a sketchbook. Being self taught in painting especially oil painting of all mediums I could've picked is quite intimidating and terrifying as a girl who reads a lot about art history..but when I started taking watercolor it's the medium where I understood color far more deeper and it made me excited than I thought so I'll stick with watercolors for a very long time and do little oil paint session if I can and come back doing oil painting full time even if they appear to have the opposite way of preparation, pigments, etc. That is all, sorry for the long message hoping nobody read this=3=

This assignment takes a long time, I practiced a lot and still don't get it right... here are a few of the results. Some of them drawn along with Stan, some partly of my own with corrections. (laid out on about 60/80cm space) I also took a little break from it and learned etching from a friend, which was fun. Will come back to mannequinization again later. Hopefully with better results.

that's so cool! I'm not brave enough to draw without stan's direction of boxes haha but I think trusting your own swing of lines like the thing you did from the bottom of the picture exactly like the way you first off drew gestures than restraining it will be so much more relaxing and more fun even elegant if you will!
