Hey Marco, Lets look at the top example. The bottom plane of the nose is barely visible on the model compared to the shadow indicated in your drawing. Tightening that up would really give the drawing more of a likeness. Looking at the left shoulder you can see that there is quite some distance from the pink shirt (almost parallel) to the where the hair falls behind her. Stretch out that shoulder a bit. A common question i ask myself is: Does this look like my subject? we typically lean to a yes or no rather quickly. Among all the things everyone tell us, i find distance relationships really helpful. ie. Does the ear line up to where the shoulder is? does the center line match? etc Often times when we see photos...the photos make things look a bit..off. Looking at photo of the model. i cant help to think how large the neck just looks in the photo which is fine...that's where artistic decisions are made. I like how you did this on the bottom reference. in me eyes..the way you shaped the back muscles are more pleasing. Good job there.

maybe too much contour? I really struggle with line quality. Never sure how to vary to add dimension and interest

Hey @Denat. Adding tones and shadows would really make your drawing pop and add dimension to it. The drawing has some good line work, however, what could really give it more character is varying your line weight. For example a lighter line weight around the abdominal area - also areas where the human body retains fat.

2022/9/30. Good morning everybody. 6:32 am here. Couldn’t sleep so… I jumped on my chair in front of my desk and started the training day with my usual warming up exercise. Very foreshortened hand pic as reference today. I don’t like so much the way I designed the core shadow on the ring finger. It makes it flat instead make it looks rounded and tridimensional. If u have any suggestion or advice can help please feel free to leave a comment. Thanks and have a good weekend.

Marco, i agree with @Steve Lenze - try contouring the actual shape of the shadow that you see. The shadow is pretty curvy and "rolls" around the finger. Don't be afraid to bubble the shadow! i find that this has really helped me gather a likeness! The straight edge shadow down the finger makes it look flat. Nonetheless, this is great for sketch. Good Job.
