I'm having a hard time figuring out where the hips end and whether I should show a side plane or not (here's some examples of confusing images to me)
Can somebody help me? Thanks :D
@hobodios I think you would maybe benefit to going back and re-watching critique 6. I think some of your boxing are loosing the gesture of the of the pose. Especially your first picture, I think on the upper curve you are showing details of the oblique while the gesture is just a c-curve. I think your second pose is better but that I think we are only seeing a small amount of the top of the plane at the shoulders.
These are my attempts for the torso exercise. I had some difficulty with this one, but I am satisfied with the result. Any feedback is appreciated.
Tried drawing from reference again. Drew the entire body to help with context and to improve my gesture, Used a marker to make my final lines (Lines are still a bit wobbly)
My third attempt for this project. First set from imagination, second from reference. I think I'm slowing getting the hang of it, and I'm happy with some of the twisting and general shape of the torsos.
Some still look weird, especially when the pose is in a rather static, "standing straight" kind of pose. I'm not sure how to exaggerate those. I guess it will come with more practice I guess.
Tough assignment. I kind of agree that imagining boxes was a little harder. I still had trouble with #18 and how to twist it. Specifically on how to do the side plane. Any tips on future situations where I might encounter similar twisting?
Round one of attempting to apply the lessons from the critique. Specifically:
1. Light construction lines
2. More straights
3. My lines are too wobbly.
Hopefully will do more when time permits.
Just wanted to say, I used my kneaded eraser as a drawing aid way back in the hand boxes project. It definitely helped with getting some of the fingers boxes angled correctly.
Some more practice while watching the critique and doing the robo bean lesson from figure drawing course.
Stan, thanks for sharing the critiques on Gestural Torso Boxes.
I know we've covered cross contours but I have a question.
And in the next lesson, sculpting the human figure with Stan!
Thank you for the critiques as always.
