LESSON NOTES

What's in Premium?

In this lesson, we continue refining the character, focusing on the "discovery" phase of painting. You’ll learn how to clean up rough sketches and use color blocking to test ideas for the tunic, belts, and accessories. We cover practical rendering techniques using the airbrush and DG Main brush to build form and texture without overcomplicating the process.

Beyond painting, this session emphasizes storytelling through design. You'll see how adding specific props, like a collection of keys or a mechanical gauntlet, adds depth to the character's history. We also discuss how to create poses that display personality while remaining functional for 3D modelers, and how to use Overlay layers to control contrast and focus.

You don't have to know the exact direction for every single piece on the initial sketch. So much of character design is just discovery. You can block out large spaces with flat color to see what works and then go back to modify the details later. Keep exploring ideas because you might find a better story or motif as you paint.
