It’s time to bring it up a notch and draw some seals from MEMORY and IMAGINATION! In this demo, I'll get ques from my memory of my level 1 sketches, while inventing new poses and pushing the shapes to make them more interesting.

I enjoy Stan's level 2 drawings than level 1.

I enjoyed this topic but need a lot more practice at it. I always wanted to be able to draw animals in action. This is a good start.

What a fun pose :D I think for the seal bursting out of water, there's a good opportunity to show the points of tension as it curves around, especially in its back. That's where you can see the front of the seal overlap over the tail (it's even highlighted by the shiny reflection), as well as another point of tension in the tail as it folds. Thinking about the overlapping sections of the seal (like shown in the drawing where the seal is facing away from us), can really emphasize the sense of depth as well, giving more believability to the subject and overall interest in the shape.

I recently read this interesting article and thought some of you might be interested. It's about how Europeans first drew and painted Australian animals. https://www.australiangeographic.com.au/topics/history-culture/2023/08/painting-the-unfamiliar/?vgo_ee=L5sBLFAwEh04Rhe5zlvh%2BRXCpd5e3Im75XHOJ7AX%2FQgIey0%3D%3AMZfwtbOCIXK0LnKAXbm8tKCHlivxwt%2Ft

I've gone back to your figure drawing course and have been doing 100 30 seconds beans as a part of my daily training and the folds and pinches are just something I struggle a lot with. Granted, I am on a timer when doing figure, but even in my lvl 2 drawings I feel like it just never crosses my mind to include these.

More from memory/imagination (except for the eyes I needed a short little peek). In the second drawing I tried to improve the lines of the one in the middle.
