ASSIGNMENTS
After mulling over different ideas, I ended up adding the various decor as I drew depending on what I thought looked cool. I ended up with this surface that is the outer portion of some sort of mechanized respiratory system.
My assignment. It was challenging. I have not draw a lot of mechanical things before so it was hard to come up with ideas. I tried to look up references for inspiration but I don’t even really know what I’m looking for…
Anyway, I played around with the things we learned in the lesson and came up with this.
Here’s my surface details assignment. It changed a lot but it’s based on the assignment download.
This is a really good assignment for combining perspective, line weight, form and imagination.
Ok, so mine turned into some kind of control panel, I tried to keep it relatively simple - because someone will have to operate it I guess, but it was a lot of fun!
I brought it into digital domain later, via photo) and to clean up lines and try working on line weight with more precision
good day to all reading that!)
I did one following along with the video and another picking different designs (2nd image). I wasn’t really happy with it so I worked a bit drawing individual components and shifted more towards a steampunk aesthetic. Not sure if my final version was a little too busy. Fun either way.
Here's my first attempt. I just copied along with the video, but I have a list of mechanical elements I looked up online that I want to practice with as well.
This is my 2nd attempting using different elements - I used bolts, chamfers, gussets, brackets, and square perforations.
I am more traditional then I realized half way through a mechanical pencil would be better on the 3rd try. Love the course I was always in the dark about adding surface details
I could have done better but I took too long trying to design items and started getting impatient.
Had fun with this one adding lots of bits and bevels. I want to get into the habit of greebling up boxes like this for practice.
Really fun exercise. Some of my lines got wonky along the way. I was a little uncertain on my application of line weight. Plenty to learn and practice. Looking forward to moving on to the next lesson!
First time drawing technical or robotic gadgets. I'll need to look at more sci-fi drawings or movies to get more ideas.
Tried to do a lot of mixing of different detail. If you want to freehand elements especially mirroring things across the center line you should have a guide layer that lets you just draw a straight along the surface. Then you can at least place your freehand detail right.
It was harder than I thought! Need to enrich my pallete of different visual elements!
