@Nelly Skeen This is a special tip for you to position Loomis's head at any angle. Draw a vertical line in the center that runs through the sphere.

So far I've just been studying how Proko does his loomis method and have been following along. Besides the poor line quality, I think I'm starting to understand it more. Next I'll try doing some front view studies from other references.

Struggled a bit with the relationship between the bottom of the sphere and the bottom plane of the jaw but got it done.

Wow, really nice! - I would keep an extra eye on the symmetry of the head. After laying in an ear on one side, for example, go to the ear on the other side, to make sure that they are symmetrical in space. Compare their distance to the center line. Do this before moving on to another feature. Flipping the drawings above will help you see the assymetry. - In the drawing to the right, you've made the back of the skull too small. There has to be room for the brain. You could think of the skull as a brain case, with a face (eye socekts, nose, cheeckbones, jaw) hanging off of it. Hope this helps :)

Hi @Ari, nice studies! It's great to see that you're trying a variety of angles and doing a second attempts on some angles. I'll do my best to help you further: - The main thing I notice is the proportion and symmetry. In the first 8 the head is a bit wide and short, and in the top right for example, the forehead is cut off a bit early. In the front views, the heads feel a bit slanted. It might be because you lost some of the symmetry between the sides of the face. Note in the bottom middle one for example, how the right angle of jaw, is lower than the left. Proportion and symmetry is something you'll always be working on, and you'll improve with practice😎👍 - I scrolled through the rest of your albums and checked out the links you have in your bio, to see if I could give some more general art journey guidance. I think the thing that would help you the most right now would be to focus your practice time on arming yourself with strong fundamentals. I would highly recommend joining the Drawing Basics course. Since it's still in the making, I think there's a chance that you'll get feedback from Stan himself if you keep up with the assignments. Another one would be the Figure Drawing Fundamentals course. The skills that I see would help you the most are gesture and structure. Hope this helps :) Let me know if you have any questions!

Hello. Good job on indicating well the tilting of the head. However, you should be more careful about the foreshortening of the thirds. For example the second sketch with the guy looking up. The thirds should progressively get bigger from forehead to chin so make sure to take that in consideration. You can see a small difference in length in your sketch but it's not accurate with the reference.

How did I do? I drew 100 of the Loomis heads and here are some from varying angles.

I suggest instead of drawing fast and a lot, try to measure the ratios slowly because in every example you have shown, the hairline to eyebrow to bottom of the nose and chin are a bit wrong. You might want to use the 3d model provided in the first class https://www.proko.com/course-lesson/3d-model-the-loomis-head/discussions and try to draw exactly what you see. It is hard to start understanding the 3d form on 2d space but once you get it, you will be fine.

Hi! I am currently trucking very slowly through the Portrait Drawing Fundamental's course and I felt inspired to try bringing a face to more of a finished piece. I'm no where near understanding the planes of the head and how to render/shade them (mainly focusing on the loomis head and the sketch. Is the loomis head looking 3D and are the proportions okay? I can't wait to get to the section of the course that goes over how to draw the features! Thanks!
