Hi, I'm currently working as a Live Caricature Artist on a theme park and I'm only been doing it since November. I also never use the Market we use for the job before then, and I want some advice on these eyes practice I did today and what you see needs work?

Hey, I know the reply is a bit late but maybe its still helpful to you. The eyes look very good but lack some refined details Tip: Adding more highlights and defining the shadows more, will add to the overall quality and realism. Also, if it comes to light reflection, you can think of the eye like a jewel or a marble. The buttom of the eye is the most bright part (but also add some shadow at the very buttom, again like a marble), while the top is the darkest. Also, the reflected light dances inside the iris. Its like the light is bouncing inside the eye. I hope this helps

First batch for this assignment, I Have to say that I struggle to make them 3 dimensional I should probably use darker tones or at least a wider range Oh and I think Outlining everything kills it to ! I have to learn how to save some lines

Did a 50 eyes study after watching the tutorial. That was 3 years ago when I first start to use shading in my drawings. Piror to that point, I had been using lines. Time flies.

This is a first serious attempt at an eye like this. I've done quite a few eyes but it was usually as a just going through the motions. Looks fine I'd say.

The first one is good, the second one not as much. James Gurney always says that he recommends new artists, who are just starting, to avoid style and concentrate on depicting the natural world as close to real as possible. Your cross-hatching, even though it might be your preferred method for rendering shadows, is interfering with the depiction and understanding of the forms. I will add that, if you want to depict shapes and shadows through cross-hatching, I recommend Alphonso Dunn's videos on YouTube, and also his book "Pen & Ink Drawing: A Simple Guide". I hope this resources help you in your journey.
