Hello Sir, this is my progress till this lecture. The drawing and painting principles you have taught here are pure gems. I wish I knew them earlier, it would have saved so many years spent searching for the right answers. The concepts you have shared here have made drawing and coloring fun and logical. Thanks a lot :)

Excellent! Your edges need more variety. Needs to be softer overall. Notice how cut out around the hairline it is. Let the flesh blend back and forth into the hair.

this starts to work better and once you get to the edges it will pull together better.
Shawn Laughlin
Added a slightly darker halftone in transition areas. I also tried to warm up around the eyes and go cooler around the beard/stubble area

Ready for edges? I know I need a lot more adjustment of the values but not sure how far to take it before the edges. When I get more painting experience would I incorporate edges as I am establishing value or would I still work according to these 'steps'? Thanks, Morgan!
Morgan Weistling
yes, incorporate edges now and use your mixtures to reapply the paint to blend.

the big test is next with edges.

I think it’s slowly coming all together and at this stage I really liked where it’s heading. I remember how excited I was in before the edge adjustment stage
Morgan Weistling
I like your boldness in your strokes.

Slowly seeing things coming together.

get out your average light mixture and see if you can tame down all the busyness of lights and halftones everywhere. Squint and clean up the lights. Try to make simple shapes in the hair.

Great set up. Edges next and hone the drawing continually. Take this picture in your phone and have the reference at the next picture on your phone. swipe back and forth at your painting and the photo. Pay attention to certain areas each time you swipe back and forth. Notice the little differences you may have missed and can't see right now. It will be enlightening.

Sorry i forgot to take a shot of the two value stage. I think I will continue to work on this half-tone stage and in the shadows afterwards. I was going to give up, but your encouragement motivated me to keep going. Thank you Morgan.
Morgan Weistling
It’s getting there. Needs a little more to the back of the head. Compare with photo keep honing the drawing at all stages
