1 minute gestures, I think I’m improving at simplifying the form into basic straights and curves, but I’m not really sure what to do with extra time if it’s a 3-5 minute drawing.

I have just begun working on the shapes section of the course and tried to combine the earlier lessons together in this sketch of my son. The youngest avenger gives me some great poses so you’re bound to see him again. Looking for some feedback as I push on, I’m also only 2 weeks into my digital journey so any tips there are welcome too. I’m using procreate.

Entirely new to digital. Gestures are a past time from another life and I never really got the hang of them then. Time limits give me weird line anxiety but it’s getting easier with practice. Feedback welcome, not sure where to post. Thanks

2-5 minute sketches. I’m kind of in love with the new timer tool and I’ve always been so anxious about time limits.
Just for fun; me vs hubby.
1 Minute Mermaids. I spent most of my minute trying to figure out the weird brush I accidentally chose, hubby went in hard with the details. Digital is an entirely new experience lol but I hope I can make sense of it all eventually. What brushes can people recommend for gesture drawing in procreate?

When life just gets in the way 😔
Despite starting out with the best intentions, with the way my day went there was just no way to get this finished in time.
It seemed a shame to give up so I did my best to get up before the family and work on it again.
I know my proportions are off and I only had time to brush over the hair and face; but hey, it’s done.
These types of references and challenges represent all the things I’m trying to work on at the moment, drapery, textures, metal, props and how they all relate to the human form. My practice was getting stagnant from only drawing portraits and nude figures, so I’m trying to build my mental visual library so to speak so that I can start to attempt story telling with my art.
It’s a slow process but these references are just great. 😊
Graphite on toned paper, white pencil for highlights. I really can’t bust out the ink with toddlers on the loose. Forgive me Proko 😂

I spent a more time on this one. I used mixed media: Acrylics, Prismacolor pencils, and pen. I did more measuring than I usually do, which is almost none. I'm trying to incorporate lessons from the Drawing Basics course into my approach. The measuring doesn't feel natural to me yet, and is sacrificing a little bit of the gesture. I think that will work itself out as I continue to use measuring as a tool. What the measuring is doing, is pointing out where my intuition is off and is thus showing which of my tendencies I need to look out for.

Wow this challenge was a lot of fun. I was so excited to throw away the timer on this one and play with some details. What a great set of references… I could get lost in them for a very long time.
I drew my Viking with graphite and white pencil on toned paper.

After seeing some drawings on here and watching the livestream, I realised I might have strayed too far from the brief with my first drawing. Stuck within the time limits this time which feels like an accomplishment in itself.
I had to stop and start a couple of times because kids 😅 lost track of my flow and time so probably spent a bit long. Fun challenge, hope I get time to do some more.

This is my second attempt so I thought I’d try using some tone… The time got away from me, which I thought would probably happen. I stopped myself around the 25 minute mark when I caught myself fussing over details.

Oh noooo not hands! 😂
ok well here’s my first attempt. I’m not allowing myself to use tone because I struggle with the time limit. Thanks for the challenge, I needed this. Can’t wait to do a few more hands now. 20 mins in graphite and white pencil.

This is my first post ever 🫣
Full disclosure, I had to burn my first drawing but I’ve never drawn mermaids before. Time limits are hard too. I tried to really focus on the big ideas with as few lines as I could. Thanks for the fun challenge, I’ll try to get another one done if my toddler lets me 😜
Graphite on toned paper, white pencil highlights to stop myself from getting tempted to start adding tone.
