I animate 2d and 3d and I like exploring hybrid options where I combine 3d for planning and tweening complex stuff and then use it as an aid for the 2d animation. But it goes both ways. Many animators I know improve their 3d animations, by doing scribbeling over their keyposes to optimize silhouettes and readability. It just makes sense to use the advantages of every tool available.

This is definitely the class I should have taken first before Marvel comic book drawing. They are awesome, but I need some more help before I reach that level. After this course, I might take Marvel Comic Drawing from the beginning. I know I'm in the right place NOW! Good to be here!

I absolutely LOVE this class! I have always worked digitally and in 3d so working on paper is a challenge for me. I am using both digital drawing tools and paper and I really love your perspectives on different artists and methods! I have lots of days of frustration like all artists do, but I feel my brain at 65 stretching every day, thank you!

I'm currently working in Blender anyway, and I need to get back to sketching ideas sometimes, which I did! I did a few before going into the 3D of it again. Off and on for years, bu I do LOVE 3D play. I want to make stylized, somewhat whimsical works that sell the perspective and don't always look like a "mistake", so making many mistakes anyway, maybe I'll slide some in if they work for whatever I do. Hee hee. :)

Funnily enough I started off 3D modelling a while back but something was always missing, I never really had a background in art so the fundamentals were beyond me, it wasn’t until I started drawing last year that things actually started to click, now I find myself wanting to draw and draw until I get to a level where I can do something similar to some of the examples in this video. The journey of art really is such an interesting one.

Doing 3D makes you better at drawing. Drawing makes you better at 3D. No such thing as cheating, they are just two skill sets that dovetail nicely.

Marshall sounds like the narrator from A Christmas Story.

I'm starting to think I love art just enough to do good work in the future. While I love problem solving if there is an efficient tool to use, after mastering the skill, I have no hang ups about using said program. The problem I'm running into is trying to decide how I might market the skill once it's acquired- I think the best solution is to simply concern myself with getting better and studying hard. Worry about the income side of it later.

Here is a breakdown of how concept artists and game designers can use 3D tools when working out ideas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjakOuNer78 I just happened to watch this today and thought it fit well with this latest lesson.

Thanks for that!

Thank you thank you thank you! This video is like hearing that the worries playing in my head about how to use 3d programs and stigmas really were all just floating thoughts instead of tangible, truly dangerous paths with absolute decisions already made for me. It's freeing to see how these artists take what they learn and add onto their skillset over time. It's a simple concept but feels like an impossible mountain to climb sometimes. I really appreciate these videos showing what's real and possible. Thank you

Thank you @aegiey. That's what I hoped it would do. Good to know it's doing that for you!

I'll have to get "it serves the viewer" tattooed on my arm or something, because I have a habit of mistaking the forest for the trees! I somehow never realized drawing over 3D models was a thing i could do. My drawing program's 3D suite suddenly makes sense!

The goal is not the results, it is the progress itself. ✨✨✨

Isn't the video making quite the opposite point?

I aim to tame perspective and break the rules so its very delightful to see Israel Sanchez playfully abuse his mastery of the subject into such lengths! Great lesson!
Colleen Quint
While I prefer "walking" my way to a spatial solution, I'm also intrigued by the interstellar travel of 3D programs. This is so encouraging to see there are multiple ways to problem-solve depending on the situation!
Fractured Soul
I mainly work in 3d, but try to draw rough sketches and ortho views as best I can, but I don't have enough perspective training yet to make my Orthos accurate. I'm looking forward to the upcoming lessons & freehanding drawn orthos! Loving all the lessons so far too!

awesome. yeah that something I need to work on doing things in stages. have tendency to want to make the masterpiece. oh boy I have a long journey ahead of me.
Marshall Vandruff
Long journey, not along, and with some good sights along the way, Dennis.
