Chose to do a local scene for this challenge, and tried to push the character while staying faithful to the lighting. This is in Tayport Scotland

The motion you captured with your brushwork to flow with your scene is fantastic!

My favorite part of this are the colors hidden in those shadows. Great job!

For my submission, I studied a photo of Coconino National Forest. I wanted to highlight the brightness of the rocks in the midground against the darkness at the bottom of the trees, but my first draft felt like it lacked a unifying element. I added a canoe in the second image to provide scale, introduce more contrast, and convey a sense of movement through the piece.

The canoe was a good call, added believability to the piece too.

Hi there! Thought I'd submit this quick repaint I did today in response to a constructive critique from @Kristian Nee I received. The new version on the left is watercolour paint and gouache. I tried to push the values more in this one than the first one but perhaps missed the opportunity for better shape design and composition. I've also attached the reference photo and my first version. I remember I wanted to capture the warmth of that light that was shining through - and maybe the grumpiness of the cat loaf. Your thoughts are appreciated!

The new version is an improvement. You values are better and improve the composition. My eyes are drawn to the light coming through the trees because of the contrast. I do make my way to the cat secondary thanks to some of the light beams. The cat also provides a good rest area too.

Here's my entry, a tractor I found in a field on a really bright sunny day. Painted in gouache (4" x 6").

This looks great and feels like a concept art piece for a game or movie.

Hello here's my submission. I have recently watched the new Top Gun and it was amazing, so I have decided to study the iconic beach scene :)

I think moving the two figures in the back more to the left would help with the readability of the composition. Your rendering looks great though and I love the reflections in the sand.

Here are some of my digital paintings, I have few years of art school behind me, it was 4 years ago but I started painting again recently and had much fun with these paintings. I try to apply what I learned from Marco Bucci's lesson on color.

Was there anyone that was going to attend lightbox this year? I think it might be cool for the community if there was a meet up with a drawing session or coffee gathering.

Asked for help
Looking for any advice to progress. This is about 2 hours in and I have focused on making sure my shapes are in before I continue refining in details. If there are any other things i should look to before moving to rendering I am all ears. This is digital so most fixes should be easy. The pictures are my painting and the reference. Thanks!

It was really fun to participate in this challenge, didn't have much time because my birthday was this week, still I got the time to let my imagination free and make a sketch :)
