Day 7 - Armor - 12 Days of Proko

Stan Prokopenko
Gear up as today’s theme is Armor. Focus on how it aligns and interacts with the human form. The challenge is to understand and depict the way armor encases the body, following its contours and movements. This exercise will help you practice drawing interactions between hard and soft forms, emphasizing the relationship between rigid armor and the fluidity of the body beneath. Use our timer tool with whatever duration and materials you'd like, but if you'd like a suggestion, I'd say try ink or markers today at 20 minutes each. Share your sketches below and let’s see what you can do! INSTRUCTIONS: Go to https://proko.com/timer, select the Day 6 reference pack, choose the quantity and duration in the right sidebar, and start the session! When you’re done, share your armor sketches here in this thread for a chance to win some prizes. 20 & 25 minute ink sketches. Didn't have access to the reference pack, but I really wanted to challenge myself with inking armor. I felt pressured to keep every armor piece clean and clear since I was using inks and because of that, my figures got way too stiff. But I'm still gonna consider it progress.

35 minute ballpoint pen sketch on Day 7. Now I can tell the head is way too big, something went wrong with perspective here haha like what's wrong with his arm on the right? Forget about the pose, it totally lost its charm. Anyway, that was fun. Each day there's something completely new to me, like armor here. Also, I imagined those are actual flowers on his chest, not some metal thingies. But I couldn't include it in the drawing since I ran out of time, oh well

Hey, you kept going and got a pretty awesome result! It's great how you utilize both line weight and value to communicate the form of the anatomy and armor interacting together, making it all feel united and believable, which is quite challenging especially with complex subject matter. It think it turned out quite well :)

Made two sketches with armor. The first one took 30 minutes to draw the pose better, the second one I managed in 20.

When life just gets in the way 😔 Despite starting out with the best intentions, with the way my day went there was just no way to get this finished in time. It seemed a shame to give up so I did my best to get up before the family and work on it again.  I know my proportions are off and I only had time to brush over the hair and face; but hey, it’s done.  These types of references and challenges represent all the things I’m trying to work on at the moment, drapery, textures, metal, props and how they all relate to the human form. My practice was getting stagnant from only drawing portraits and nude figures, so I’m trying to build my mental visual library so to speak so that I can start to attempt story telling with my art.  It’s a slow process but these references are just great. 😊  Graphite on toned paper, white pencil for highlights. I really can’t bust out the ink with toddlers on the loose. Forgive me Proko 😂

Hello! Today’s challenge is, as usual, quite difficult. The clothing, the armor, the pose…not easy. I used the same photo set for 2minutes warm-ups, even though I had already done the mushroom and lines warm-up. However, I feel it might not be enough for this challenge. After the two-minute warm-up, I spent thirty minutes on each photo. I really like this new timer tool. I no longer need to manually click to move on to the next photo. By the way, is it possible to add a sound effect when the time is up? Perhaps something like Proko’s sound effect –and we can toggle for sound mode on/off. It could be especially useful for the super short durations, like thirty seconds or one minute.

20 mins sketches. I mainly focused on the form. I draw too slowly to get to those beautiful armor shines in 20 mins.

The challenge for me was getting the forms of each picture as I saw them, as you can see, I will keep practicing. I set up the timer for 20 min each, these are pen on newsprint.

Sadly I didn't have time to do Day 6, and didn't have time to do Day 7 until today! Hadn't worked with my alcohol markers in a while, realized some of them were dried out, oh well. Here's my day 7 drawings :) Both 20min
