I would grab some references of gestural drawings or paintings of children that push the gesture. Norman Rockwell comes to mind as he pushes the gesture and expression in his paintings and you might be able to apply that to your sculptures if you do some studies from him. There's probably many other great examples you could learn from. You're doing good!
