The thing he did with the square inside the square to find that first ellipse blew my mind! I watched the 1994 perspective videos and even dabbled with Robertson's How to Draw and I could never get ellipses right... who knew that such a simple trick could really help with that. Amazing! Thank you for the demo :)
LESSON NOTES

What's in Premium?

We sit down with Daniel Cherng to watch him draw complex chairs entirely from imagination. You will see how to use simple box and ellipse structures to set up a solid base, which allows you to skip tedious intermediate steps. Daniel shows you how to find the center of gravity, place wheels accurately, and carve blocky shapes into curved, ergonomic cushions. We also cover how to design armrests and hydraulic cylinders while keeping your perspective accurate. Finally, you will learn how camera distance changes the proportions of your subject. Daniel demonstrates how a wide or shallow footprint makes the exact same chair look completely different depending on how close you are.

Drawing from imagination starts with simple geometry. You can build complex objects by sketching a basic box and ellipse structure first. Once you establish the perspective, you simply carve away the blocky shapes to reveal the final design.

This is probably the coolest demo of the entire course. I enjoyed a lot of the other demos but this was truly great to watch
