ASSIGNMENTS
This was a very challenging but intressant assignment. I had to regress to pencil for a while as I was practicing, to convince myself that I could draw at all. For some strange reason it all became easier when I began to sketch with a lighter coloured pen. I have no clue as to why!

Nice work! There's definitely something that tricks the mind with lighter colored pens, it doesn't seem as intense when a line goes awry. An indelibly dark ink line can be intimidating at first, but stick with it and you'll adjust. Ballpoint is fairly forgiving if you keep it light, and build up to darker lines. I find it helpful to do a warmup page with a micron, or sharpie, something with an intense dark line, and then switch to ballpoint, it helps get some of the jitters out, and builds line confidence quickly! Keep up the good work!
Lots of hands, I feel like I'm struggling with thumbs primarily. The form there is just so weird sometimes.
Yikes these are not great lol. But I am forcing myself to post stuff. Gotta show up to get better.
This has been a fun course so far :)
Here are some of the hands I’ve done. Still need a lot of work, but coming along. The ones with two hands were really tricky. I found it hard to keep it gestural on them while plotting out the proportions in relation to each other.
I never knew Sketching with just pen could be so liberating although plenty of mistakes are to be made I still enjoyed going through these and building from that
It seems like that course will take one lesson a week and one theme at a time 😁
Thanks for a good reason to keep on practicing !
today - female beautiful hands! Male and couples will come later
p.s. Odd comment to say to anyone outside of this community .. but I’ve finally found a perfect place to wet on my finger to make more delicate and versatile smudges… good day to everyone reading that!😉🤣
Wow, you kept these small but they still look really good. I always struggle when I try to draw hands this size. Nice job!
Ahhh male hands are really hard for me, turns out that I’m so used to drawing elegant female hands, that making a bulky, strong pedal of a hand really confuses me🫤
and fists really hurt… even boxers don’t realise how much😂
but nevertheless here is my next page, we will see how it will go next!)
smile to all reading that!)
As i see how you draw i realized that i have to manage more my line quantity, i do mindlessly strokes over another without any purpose. Less is much more i think.
Really good hands sketches! Love the two hands touching with the same 2 fingers. 😁
Here are my attempt for this assignment. Starting out with gesture really helped. Some angles of the hand was pretty tough. What do you guys think?
Well done! You obviously put a ton of work into these hand gestures. There is quite a bit of expression and soul here ;)
2-3 min hands practice. I feel like spending more time on each hand doesn't help, since I don't think adding more details fixes it. I feel like it's better to start over than to spend more time adding details to fix things.
I happened to already be sketching hands in blue ink (2nd image) before the course was announced. I supplied the 2nd image to share where I'm already at. The poses in the 2nd image (pre-course drawings) were all started as gestures and worked up with construction using pretty much the recommended approach in the videos, just longer than 5 minutes.
But for some reason the 5 minute poses I did today (1st image) were stiff and timid... In the first image, the first few I felt like I captured the pose in 2 minutes and moved on, the rest feel stiff and disjointed. I feel like I can really push the flexibility if I just relax and stop caring so much about the result. I'll do more of these 5 minute gestures and come back.
I used the boxes to cover up when I have too many messy lines when it ruins the read of the forms I intend, or when the form doesn't read without seeing the negative space clearly.
I like the idea of using blocks of colour /ballpoint pen to clean up the negative space. Thanks for sharing.
