I'm a level one student but I really wanted to try this, and im so glad I did. I was cackling at my human in a sloth suit (I genuinely was trying to just draw a sloth). It seems I cannot draw sloths without making them look absolutely insane or maniacal. Anyway hope this makes someone laugh as hard as it did for me.

Had to give it one more shot, ended up with a sunglassed sloth

I tried to be loose with my drawing but I feel like I kinda ended up being static? I started very loose and then darkened the lines that I thought were 'good'. Glad to see I wasnt the only one who really struggled with the spiderman hand! I am still drawing every single day, and taking photos of my work so I can (hopefully) look back in a few months or years and see improvement! `

I think you did great with this assignment, but I see what you're saying about feeling static -- I think you could employ the gestural hand with the overhand grip a bit more and use light searching lines to find the rhythms. What you did with darkening the correct lines is exactly right. You will definitely see improvement if you keep this up every day. I'm excited to see you post more :) Keep it up!

Realized I added way too much to the snail...kept that in mind when doing the boots. Hope I did those better.

Nice work :) The boots can be especially challenging, and you did a great job with the simplification. Something to watch out for when it comes to getting carried away with detail are the short (usually repeating) lines we have a tendency to create. That can be useful to add in a later stage meant for detail, but early on, using longer, sweeping lines can help steer our focus towards the picture's simplified 'main idea'. I think there was great improvement with your two attempts -- keep up the good work!

Hello! I had just completed the pears project and I thought I would give this one a try. Found it really difficult to simplify what I was seeing in terms of shapes. Also found it hard to catch myself from over-doing it. Only after completing it did I realize how lopsided it was on my first try. Lesson learned! After the demo I tried again, i'm finding myself getting stuck with 4 tones instead of the five, something to work on for sure. Left is pre-demo, right is post.

Also realized a bit too late that my jawline was wayyyy huge! (post-demo)
@turyqobs
Left side is pre-demo right side is post-demo. I decided to do two different pears. Looking at others drawings it seems like I may have missed something or just not understanding something?

It looks ok to me. Some of your value shapes are a little fuzzy. It’s difficult to see the 2 different shadow values. Here’s how I would approach this assignment. Sometimes defining the 5 values on the side of the page can help keep things organized. Maybe it helps. You seem to understand this assignment for the most part though. You simplified these pears using only straight lines. Good work 👍
@jackedactuary
I did the one on the left before watching the demo and the one on the right after. I understood how to do the values better with different pencils better with the second one, but I still feel like that is my weak point.
