Without the demo v. with the demo with corrections XD

First set are on my own while the second set are during the demo examples. I think I overdid a bit when I should have just been focusing on the pec muscles but it helps me spot my mistakes and refine them.

Definitely tricky lol First two pages are from my the 3D premium model and from my own imagination. The last one was with the demos.

And these are all three assignments but as I followed along with the demos XD
These are all my first attempts at all three assignments without following along with the demos. I was basically trying different creative methods to best simply and exaggerate certain measurements and break out of old habits to best nail the figure of the spine.

The following are joint assignments. The first three were done during the demo while the last page is practice on my own. I think I'm progressing slowly xD

Overall I enjoyed this assignment and course. The attempt was a SAD, SCI-FI, DESPAIR character. The attempt was to make a CYBER GOTH looking woman-though I think it's more fantasy than sci-fi. I am certainly not gonna become a master after this course but I do feel confident enough to begin working on a portfolio for concept art.
What I realized throughout the course is that I spend too much time rendering early into the artwork. When really the focus is really ideation, making as many designs with little time. Which is why I believe the ALLA PRIMA method is best used for ideation with tons of references. I still need to practice 'drawing quickly without worrying about detail and render later' psychology but I feel trained enough to know how to improve on my own thanks to this course.

Yeah I can never do things the easy way...it's how I learn xD

At first i thought the assignment was to study ten images then using the information from the studies create your own 10 drawings with interesting space harmony. I only came back days later to realize that wasn't the assignment at all lol But I do have a bunch of sketches I can use for later so it's all good XD

Definitely prefer my second and third paintings in this exercise! XD

Yes I chose the most "WTF" looking faces. Easier to pay attention and attempt to capture their likeness.

Yeah I know my first one is far better. I ran outta juice while painting the younger female model xD

Painting without an undersketch or drawing is abnormal to me...guess it only reveals my weakness as an artist therefore it was crucial I do this assignment to learn speed painting. So glad I did too xD

Yeah I'm back here watch this for a second time cuz I've come to realize during the assignment I rely on my sketch underdrawing a little too much to paint portraits. I can't do the speed painting technique just yet I usually draw everything first. But I don't just wanna quit and move on without trying to learn this method.

Here are notes I took of the entire lesson. The lessons are becoming more complex so I encourage you to take notes as well, don't just read my notes. Writing down what you find yourself will help you reinforce the ideas yourself.
Here's the most important info before you start:
The main purpose of the assignment is to learn brushwork, carving, and layering paint by studying masters.
Extra things you will practice/learn:
1. Painting skin tones (wooooooo)
2. Practicing lay-ins
3. Squinting to find SIMPLE geometrical shapes
4. Utilizing blurred edges and sharp edges
5. Speed painting
6. How to study from masters you enjoy
I see people in the unofficial discord confused with the purpose of this lesson. Keep the main purpose in the back of your head as you go forward with the lesson.

I believe what folks are misunderstanding is that art is a step by step process. And if even one of those steps is lacking the whole painting process becomes muddied. Take your time, be loose but keep an eye on what you're doing to determine when is the appropriate time to proceed to the next step.
