Here are my attempts so far for exaggerated poses. I decided to try a Balanced, Exaggerated, and Unbalanced pose for each of these to see if I could come up with interesting poses. The exaggerated and unbalanced continue to be super challenging for me with trying to draw from imagination. I found that I need to continue building my visual library (aka using references to get an idea of what I'm thinking) for these poses to understand where everything is positioned to make it look believable. Any critique is welcome!

Hey Guys, here are my attempts so far for Balanced vs. Unbalanced. I had a lot of fun with these ones and it was super challenging to create the unbalanced poses from imagination. Any critique is always welcome!

A few more mannequins that I did over the last couple days. I've been trying to use the timer tool to limit my mannequin drawings to 20min to force myself to make decisions quicker. The one with the guy holding the rope and the one with the forshortened arm coming at us took me like an hour and a half each because I spent way to much time analyzing everything. As always any critique is welcome!

Here are my first couple attempts at this. Any critique would be appreciated as I'm a little unsure if I'm not simplifying enough or if there is something else I should be doing differently.

Here are a few of my attempts for female landmarks from the back and the draw along for the video. I had a tough time finding the deltoid and trapezius muscles since they aren't super pronounced unless flexing. Any critiques are welcome as always!

Here are my attempts. This one through me for quite the loop trying to create ellipses in boxes. I ended up using the method that Scott Robertson suggests, which is just to focus on the minor access and try to make both halves equal. Not sure how successful I was at that but this was a fun challenge. I have a couple attempts without a perspective grid but having the grid on the other two was a huge help to keep my lines consistent. Any critiques welcome!

Hey Guys, here are some of my attempts at this structure exercise. I probably could have simplified a bit more on these. Any critiques are appreciated!

So glad I finally caught up with the course to get a potential critique! Here are my level 1 submissions for this assignment. I wasn't quite sure where and if the boxes should be connected for the knuckles so I experimented with both. I also thought it would be fun to add my hand drawing from the "Learning to sketch from observation" assignment as well just to show how much I've improved in just a few months of this course. This has been a great course so far!

Hey Everyone, here is my first attempt, outside of doing some draw along ones. The hardest part is certainly the shapes/tilt step as that is where everything is built from and getting the position of the ribcage is especially hard. This one I had made the torso too long in my gesture step so I had to shorten it during my connections/landmark steps, not sure if its correct but closer than it was. Loving this process so far but going to take a lot of practice to get it down.

First attempt, overall, not unhappy with it. The main killer for me was the placement of the eyes and the angle of the hat. I was kind of surprised that I was able to get the placement of the actual head shape pretty much correct. This was definitely a tough one. I've never tried to do precise measuring like this with traditional media, only digitally a long time ago. Measuring with a pencil was a challenge. I ended up using a ruler to make the initial placement markings (chose to make the hat to forehead 2 inches long and measured down about 6 lengths for the total length, using the recommended 14 x17 paper). After that, I tried to use relational measuring as much as possible but it was kind of doomed from the start with my hat shape.

A few attempts from my favorite Batman run from one of my favorite artists, Greg Capullo. He gets these super thin lines which are hard to get in a consisent way. The more I looked at the drawings, there is a lot of chaos in his lines but it's a controlled chaos that shows the forms of whatever he is trying to convey, very difficult to replicate for me. I had a lot of fun with these. I'm planning do some more of my favorite comic artists like Jim Lee, Sean Murphy, Tony S. Daniel and a bunch more.

Here are my attempts for Importance and Shadow, respectively. For the shadow one, I tried to incorporate a little bit of importance as well, the larger forms = Darker lines and the smaller forms = Lighter lines (But still darker than the non-shadow lines).

Second attempt of the VR girl, with red pencil now! And a couple images that I found on Pinterest. I had a lot of fun with the mech and trying to simplify what I was seeing and trying to think more in overall shapes and forms vs just contours. I felt like I rushed the VR girl a bit as to not get caught on the weeds with measuring and whatnot for proportions, which I think was kinda the point of the exercise 😬. I've found that I like to start with energy, or I guess rhythm, lines for all the major parts first and that helps me map my angles and proportions a bit better (except that VR girl has a bunch of proportion issues 😅).

First attempts of the three references. The hand was by far the hardest for the proportions. I tried to not take too long with these and just get them on paper with quick movements. I enjoy rough sketching like this where I'm not so concerned about getting everything right. Hopefully, I captured the clean-ish look even if the proportions are way off. Certainly plenty of searching lines that I cleaned up a bit when they got out of hand.

First attempt of the snail, pretty happy with it overall. The shell is a little small but it still looks like a snail! Did this one in the sketchbook, will attempt digitally to see if I can do any better.

Managed only one of the boots tonight. Going to come back tomorrow and do the other one. Took close to 2 and a half hours because those laces were super intricate and I was starting to go cross eyed looking at them any longer. What's not shown in the picture is my rough sketch that I cleaned up here. After stepping away and looking at it I can already tell the right side of the boot is too wide.
