Here are some notes and sketches from drawing along. Having been a mentee of Mike Matessi early in my journey, and having the Force method for line and then shapes, this approach has a lot of familiar ground for me. Where your approaches diverge is that for Mike, force line and force drawing in general pushes you towards shape early on. The force gesture approach is less structural and more rhythm based, connection being emphasized by the function of the pose, i.e. what supports the action and relationships of the parts. There is more emphasis on leading and turning edges of a pose dictating where the energy and fluidity is found. So when you get to using "force shape", you can apply those ideas to building the same energetic poses while also building in some sense of anatomy because force line represents some function of the body part,. This is similar to your pinch and stretch lines. Mike builds that that in early so passive and active muscles are a stretch and pinch combo intuitively.
Anyway, I just find the comparison interesting and valuable.
Michael, I am debating of either buying this course of your flash course in brainstorm. Is there any overlap with what you teach? :) thank in advance (love your book)
Here’s my shape method attempt. This sketch book isn’t the best for coloring lol. Feedback back is appreciated.
this method really helps me understand the parts of the figure as a design element! i like how you have covered multiple gesture styles so far this course was a great investment.
Really enjoying and getting a lot of use out of this course, thanks Michael!! :)
