Fixing up the values to be a bit more precise. Can be hard to really see the subtle differences in values. More practice needed!
I see now that the neck folds are still too light and the edges are too sharp defining the shape in between the brightly lit ear and the face. I could likely darken the left side of the face a little more too.

I was surprised to see squinting at the background anchored the subject and gave the sketch some movement
Here is my HW assignment for the values portion. Decided to stop while I was ahead -- felt like I was starting to make some dicey moves. Excited to keep going!

I'm used to putting in edges before halftones, so got my stages a little mixed up
Here is my assignment for values. Please ignore the noise in the shadow inside the hat area. It is my old printer that made the paper wrinkly. Thank you.
Started from scratch after realising I scribbled too much over my shape study, values are a bit better here too
