After the anatomy course, I've come back to the gesture course. Tried 2 minutes (sometimes more...) quicksketch. Your comments would be really welcome!!

Hey Richard, I made some notes for you below! You expressed the overall gesture lines throughout these drawings very well. One thing I noticed as a common theme is that you could exaggerate the poses just a bit more without going too far with it. One way you could do this is to push the pinch & stretch of the torso. I did a couple of draw-overs below as an example. Another thing to mention is the contours; overall you did a good job simplifying to CSI, but for example, the back of the arm in 006 could be represented by one C curve instead of the two c curves. It keeps the flow without the detail of the muscles, which would be necessary to include in a longer drawing but not so important for a quick drawing. One last thing that may help you is to recall the gestural torso box assignment from the drawing basics course. You don't have much time to analyze the figure when you're doing quick poses; using the box is a quick way to simplify the shape and identify twists. For example, in 006, her shoulders are twisting slightly back to the left and her hips are facing forward. In my box, I exaggerated the pose even more to give her hips a slight twist back to the right using the box as a mental guide. Hope you find this helpful. Again, really nice job here 👍

After a 30 sec session, these 2 min poses seem an eternity, like all the time in the world :) Need to try something with these wild lines

Started with trying to copy the first few, then used the video as a timer.

I started drawing in 2020 and this course late 2021 and didn’t finish it. I have been drawing on and off since then, but this year I have gotten a lot more serious about art. I have almost finished this course! Here is my progress from December 2021 to today. It’s not a super big difference, but I feel a lot more confident with these and doing gestures do not frustrate me as much as they used to lol. Hopefully it can inspire you guys to keep going forward even though it can be mentally draining. If anybody has critiques please say something! I want to improve.

It took me a little longer than 2 minutes, but Im starting to get the hang of it

My experience with drawing gestures: The results are a bit inconsistent. Sometimes I nail the pose on the first try, and it looks pretty solid. But then I analyze it, decide I can improve something, redraw it—and it ends up worse. Probably because I focus too hard on that one detail I wanted to fix, and it messes with the overall flow. Other times, it's the opposite: it doesn't work at first, but after the second or third try, I start to feel the pose and manage to sketch it out nicely.

I tried the 2 minute rhythm gesture exercise. I started on paper but ended doing it digitally to avoid wasting paper. It is really difficult for me to understand how to catch the rhythm, I was copying what Stan was doing on the demo video but couldn't apply that on the exercise with other pictures. If someone can help me understand, or giving any advice on how to catch the rhythm or any critiques, it would be wonderful! Thank you <3

Here are some of my attempts at the 2 minutes gesture poses, and a couple of the 30 second ones. I'm struggling to keep some of my drawings fully on the page, but I am aware of this and am open to help and feedback

Here’s a shorter and improved version of your text: “Hey everyone, I’ve been practicing figure drawing daily after taking a course. I’m not a fast learner, but I love the process and was proud of my progress with the first few examples. I took a break to focus on portraits for a while, but now that I’m back to figure drawing, I feel like I’ve gotten worse. It’s frustrating and makes me angry, which only leads to more bad drawings. Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!” first 5: proud of that i make a month ago last 2: is from now

You are doing great! My feedback would be to have more confidence with setting your lines.

These look like nice simplifications of the human form to me! Nice gesture!

This is a bunch of 2 minute quick sketch that I did over multiple days. These are really fun to do so I will keep up the daily routine of them. Some poses can be really hard and I mess up proportion a lot but I hope to improve with time : )
@rudysterner
Here are some attempts at gesture. I know I've got a long way to go. I keep making the head too small.
Jason Lankford
Here is my attempt to follow along with the quicksketch 2 minute gesture demo. I have trouble with proportion. And, I draw too many lines.
Charles Ray
Ignore the silly toenails.. I tend to do this with most drawings just having fun.
Rachel Dawn Owens
Keep having fun!
